  • Temple of Kom Ombo - The historical Kom Ombo Temple, located in the north of the city of Kom Ombo, about 45 km north of Aswan, was established in 180 BC. AD, to worship “Sebak and Horus”.

This temple is unique in its architectural composition because it is based on two axes, each of which is self-contained, and an integrated lighting project was made to illuminate the temple at night. It was established during the reign of Ptolemy VI, and it was decorated in the Roman era, the time of Emperor Tiberius, in terms of design and architecture. The walls of this temple were decorated with an intimate Egyptian decoration, characterized by the accuracy of its workmanship, good harmony, and the beauty of the balance between the characters of its scenes and the surrounding hieroglyphic inscriptions that complete these scenes.

Situated on the western bank of the Nile, its construction began during the reign of Ptolemy III (246–221 BC) in 237 BC, but was completed in the reign of Ptolemy XII (80–51 BC) in 57 BC, 180 years later.

The temple remained buried under layers of settlement debris for millennia, which is why its architectural and decorative elements have survived so well. In 1860 the French archaeologist Auguste Mariette uncovered and restored parts of the temple.

The temple is fronted by two massive pylons that bear scenes of Ptolemy XII conquering his enemies and worshiping deities. Two large granite statues of the falcon-god Horus stand before the pylons. Once through the pylons you enter into a large Peristyle court lined with columns decorated with floral capitals.

Good times with Sultan on the Kom Ombo and Edfu Temples drive - The ride from Aswan to Luxor is pretty long but it definitely helps break the trip up with stops at both Temples. Sultan picked us up on time and was also fun to talk with. I asked him all kinds of questions about Egypt and he was open to answering all of them. Thanks Sultan for being a great driver and helping pass the time with interesting conversation.

We enjoyed the journey as much as the destination - I have to say the trip from Aswan to Luxor with Sultan was a wonderful experience. I am really glad we choose to use Eyes of Egypt instead of taking a train directly to Luxor as we were able to visit two temples and more importantly make a new friend “ la, shukran “ along the way. Thank you for everything! You are highly recommended!

Very good quality service - It was a long road trip going through many villages which took more than six hours but the experience was amazing. The guide and drivers were very good, took care of all my family and made the trip very smooth. We spent all the time we wanted at the temples and they accompanied us everywhere. The company manager of Eyes of Egypt was also very supportive and made sure everything was as good as possible. I strongly recommend it!

Edfu temple is a must see. - Edfu temple is excellent and worth the car trip from Luxor. The drive was relatively safe and comfortable, but the car was a little too old and the seat belt didn't work.

Disappointment - It started as a racehorse and we ended up finishing on a donkey. At first everything was very comfortable, the driver did not have much knowledge of English, regardless of this we made the trip, we stopped at the first temple (kom ombo temple) everything was fine then we continued our journey to the second temple that we saw (Edfu temple) when leaving The driver mentioned to us that they were going to close the streets at 5, which we didn't understand. He began to drive much faster and stop other cars that were going down the road asking for the correct street to go to Aswan. This happened more than 10 times back and forth. He was not sure how to get there and against time because the streets were supposedly closed. After a lot of asking and turning around we managed to find a route to get there. By that time my family and I were already stressed with headaches and in a bad mood, since we couldn't even stop on the way to buy something. In the end it was not at all pleasant to arrive that way. It tarnishes all the good service they could have provided. Considering that the service is not cheap, compared to others that cost only 1/3 of what this one charged.
