Built between 1960 and 1970, the Aswan Dam, or more specifically the Aswan High Dam, is a type of embankment dam that crosses the Nile in Aswan, Egypt. Its importance far surpassed that of the earlier Aswan Low Dam that was first completed in 1902 downstream.
