often affecting the fortunes of the other. This relationship can be traced back literally thousands of
years with the ancient Olympic Games dating back as far as the 7th Century BCE
- Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - It is uncertain whether there any actual remains at the site but the tribute commemorates those
who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending their nation and its principals, throughout history.
- Syntagma Station - Although its history is relatively recent compared with the rest of this ancient city, Syntagma Square
has been the central point for all of the major political movements in Athens over the last 200 years
- Plaka - Interestingly, considering Plaka is
of central importance to Athens, the origins of its name have been
lost to the ages. In fact, the area was not even known as Plaka until the Greek War of Independence
came to a close in the early stages of the 1800’s.
