Thiseio - Originally a sanctuary dedicated to the deified Theseus, the greatest ancient Athenian hero second only to Hercules, this beautiful ancient temple was rebuilt as the Temple of Hephaestus, the ancient Greek god of engineering and mechanics, after its destruction by the city’s enemies. Constructed by the same engineers who later built the Parthenon, Thiseio resembles a miniature version of the Parthenon, serving as a rehearsal for the grander project.
