This journey through Athens brings us to the city’s most renowned attractions, both from ancient times and the present. The city’s most iconic marvel and the emblem of the Athenians is undoubtedly the Parthenon located on top of the Acropolis Hill.
We’ll explore the ancient Roman Agora (marketplace) and the Ancient Greek Agora where once Socrates engaged in dialogue with the Athenian public about complex concepts like justice, truth, and love.
Venturing a bit further from the immediate vicinity of the Acropolis, we can observe the Changing of the Guard at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, known as Evzones. Close to the Parliament, we will also appreciate the acclaimed “trilogy” of structures designed by the Danish architects Theophil and Christian Hansen: the Athens Academy, the University of Athens, and the National Library, designed in a grand neoclassical style.
We also visit the stadium that hosted the inaugural modern Olympics in 1896.
Lastly, we reach the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the monument named Hadrian’s Arch, a unique Roman edifice dedicated to Theseus and Hadrian, the founders of Athens.
