The Best Meteora Tour Company - This is definitely one of the best tour companies we used. Very well executed and very personable. I booked our 2 night 3 day tour after having a difficult time to find train tickets to Meteora from Athens. After reading reviews of the past clients, I decided to rely on a professional team to arrange the transportation and tours. The train system still has issues after last year’s horrible flood and we rode a very comfortable brand new bus instead. The driver was great - safe and nice countryside drive. We stopped at a very nice rest stop for coffee, pastry and even Greek salads! Once we arrived, we were dropped off and picked up for sunset tour. We entered one monastery and drove by the rest of beautiful monasteries. The guide, Chris, was excellent! He brought us to a very historical church in the city and also stoped at a “cave monastery” and gorgeous view points. The next day weather forecast said heavy rains and he helped to change our hiking tour to monastery tour at the last minutes. Despite the rain, the tour was great one. The guide ( I lost my note with his name, sorry) and the driver made several “Greek stops” ( on the side of the road) to see the monasteries covered with fogs/clouds after rain - it was magical. The 3rd day, I requested (when I booked 9 months ago) to arrange our transportation to Thessaloniki instead of Athens. The train was not available so they bought bus tickets for us, printed the booking tickets and brought us to the bus stop from our hotel. We cannot ask better personal service than that. We truly enjoyed our trip!

Wonderful adventure - All of the monasteries, the food, and the people. Everyone was so kind. It’s no wonder that this is a UNESCO site.

Magical experience - I apologize for the lengthy review, but I truly feel I must share this with you. As someone who prefers to explore at my own pace, I usually avoid guided tours. However, due to time constraints, I decided to make an exception and chose Visit Meteora based on their positive reviews. I booked a three-day trip from Athens for myself and my 19-year-old daughter, including visits to Thermopylae on the last day and Delphi on the way back. The experience far exceeded my expectations. The organization was excellent. Our stay was in a spacious room with three terraces offering a fantastic view of Meteora, the monasteries, and a church. The owners were truly kind and very helpful. They also have a family restaurant next to the apartment where we tried the best traditional Greek food we found throughout Greece—you could sense it was cooked by their grandma 😊. The places we saw during the trip were insanely beautiful. We also received plenty of information about the history and life in the monasteries. Our guide, Apostolis, was fun, knowledgeable, and full of energy. Being a local, he shared interesting facts about life in the nearby village: "All the people there don’t only know everyone but also everything about everyone." We took a sunset tour and a morning tour with Apostolis. We also went on an additional, separately paid hiking tour with Kris, a great expert who explained the formation of Meteora right on the sandy ground. Kris told us many interesting things about history, the village, and Meteora. We also talked a lot about our hobbies, making it a very fun experience. He even showed us a "secret place" where only the locals go, and we enjoyed the sunset to the fullest there. Kris is also an excellent photographer and took wonderful photos of us (with our phones, of course). This hiking tour was the cherry on top—an exceptional experience where we climbed the Meteora mountain, discovered a hidden chapel, and rang the bell high up. In Thermopylae and Delphi, we traveled in a private minivan. Our driver, Sotos, was very friendly and communicative. He told us many things about the landscape and Greek history. The drive through the mountains and past the olive groves went by in a flash. Did you know where the term "Thermopylae" comes from? We visited the monasteries during less crowded times, traveled in the latest air-conditioned vans, and most importantly, received friendly, good-natured, and professional guidance from locals who truly have Meteora in their blood.

Meteora is a must visit! - We enjoyed our trip from Athens to Meteora. Our trip included a nice 4-star hotel in the town of Kalabaka, two guided tours in Meteora, and one self-guided tour in Delphi. The sunset guided tour in Meteora was our favorite... we had a wonderful guide Katerina (Kate) who explained the landscape, history, and spiritual significance of Meteora. Katerina was friendly, well-informed, and funny. As a local, her personal connection to the town was evident in the stories she shared. We also loved our bus driver, Kostas, who went above and beyond taking great photos of the people in our group. We enjoyed the minibus tour to three monasteries, which was led by a guide named Vasilis who was an expert historian. Note for future visitors: 1. We highly recommend staying in Kalabaka downtown and not a hotel outside of it. 2. We initially chose the hiking tour, but switched to minibus tour because it visits three monasteries instead of just one. We booked through Get Your Guide, and this distinction was not made clear in the description so something to be aware of!

Great trip! Would recommend! - We had a wonderful time on our 3-day, 2-night tour to Meteora. It is beautiful and felt much like visiting a national park in the states. It was very worth the extra travel time. Visit Meteora was a great company to go with and provided knowledgeable and entertaining guides to learn from both about the religious history of the monasteries and about the rock formations. We did the sunset tour which involved a visit to 1 monastery and a local church, a short hike in the woods, and multiple picture opportunities leading up to the sunset. The guide was intentional to take your pictures at the best spots along the way. The next morning we did the half day tour which stopped at 3 different monasteries and generally gave you enough time at each but did repeat some info we learned the night before. The guide does not go into the monasteries with you but provides lots of info and stories in the chartered van. They had safe drivers, helpful communication pre-trip and at their local office where they can hold your bags if needed, and arranged a beautiful hotel stay. Each family/couple seemed to be assigned different hotels in the local area. We did not upgrade and ended up loving our stay at Boutique Plakias Guesthouse/Boutique Holy Spirit. It was a small room but but the staff were incredibly hospitable and also ran the most delicious and fun restaurant in the tiny town of Kastraki. Definitely add Taverna Gardenia to your meal plans regardless of the hotel you’re assigned. We ate there 4 times during our stay and the tour guide dropped others off there to dine as well. We took a greyhound style bus from Athens to Meteora alongside other tour companies as recent flooding and damage have put the train to Meteora out of commission for a while (projected into 2024). We did not add any additional activities so we probably could have stayed one less day as we still had free time before and after the two scheduled tours that are included. Others seemed to enjoy the hike and rock climbing add ons. It was easy to get a taxi during our free time back up to visit the sites but that additional transport is not part of the package. Kalabaka is bigger than Kastraki and had a nice little downtown to walk, shop, and dine in for an afternoon, but it does not have the same charm or as good of views of Meteora or hiking access from hotel if you’re looking for that. Thank you Visit Meteora for a wonderful time!

Visit Meteora is the best tour company to see Meteora with! - Visit Meteora is the absolute BEST tour company to use when visiting the Monasteries near Kalabaka Greece! My friend and I were booked to do the overnight trip departing Athens on the train. Our train was cancelled while we were standing on the platform because of the record rainfall that the area was receiving. George from Visit Meteora personally arranged to have Evan, one of his drivers pick us up in Athens and drive us to Kalabaka. Unfortunately about 1/2 way there the highway was closed due to flooding. George had been in constant contact with Evan. He arranged for us to have very nice lodgings and the next morning we headed out again. Evan was able to get us there with great knowledge of the roads and countryside. We arrived in time to have the sunset tour with Toli. Again, first rate and very informative! The next day we had an amazing hiking tour with Chris. Just fabulous! We were supposed to return by bus because the trains were still not operational. We had to be back in Athens that night. However, the Highway back to Athens was still closed. George arranged to drive us to Thessaloniki, 3 hours away and then flew with us to Athens. He had another great driver, Janis, meet us at the airport and take us to our hotel. We could not have asked for better care! He truly cares about his clients and has quality people working for him. Meteora and the monasteries are breathtaking and not to be missed! A one day trip from Athens is not adequate. Spend a minimum of 1 night! And, choose Visit Meteora as your tour company! Then sit back, relax and let them show you the stunning Meteora they call home!

An incredible and magical visit! - The views were magnificent and the guides very interesting. We received lots of good information from the 3 guides who accompanied us. The 3 activities we participated in were excellent and fulfilled us. Very warm welcome also by Kristos at the Boutique Holy Spirit hostel. Superb place in Kastraki. All our meals were taken at the tavern that they own and the meat there was succulent! The servers were very friendly. Great atmosphere! The only very negative point is the lunch! There is none: yogurt, coffee, a banana once, bread, jam, no toaster….a slice of cheese once! Nothing else before going on long hikes! We have never experienced this in all our travels! The bus drivers always drove very carefully and we felt safe. Congratulations to the Météora team.
