• Acropolis - The day begins at the Acropolis, the heart of ancient Athenian life, surrounded by its remarkable cyclopean wall, constructed by the Mycenaeans thousands of years ago. The Acropolis is home to the Parthenon and many other incredible monuments. Enter through the grand ‘Propylaia,’ where a gold-encrusted statue of the Goddess Athena once stood. Visit the Temple of Athena Nike from 420 BC, the mythical Erechtheion with its unique construction and iconic Caryatids, and the World’s oldest Theatre of Dionysus from the 6th Century BC, which hosted the first performances of ancient plays by Sophocles and Euripides. The impressive and fully renovated Roman theater, Herodius Atticus, completed in AD 161, dedicated to the wife of a wealthy benefactor, still hosts a vibrant public summer program.
• Parthenon - Widely regarded as a masterpiece of science, engineering, and culture, the Parthenon was dedicated to the goddess Athena and originally housed her magnificent statue. Its decorative sculptures are considered highlights of classical Greek art, some of which are displayed in the nearby Museum.
• Acropolis Museum - Discover the New Acropolis Museum, located next to the Acropolis, which houses many masterpieces from the site. You may choose to explore the museum or continue without entering.
• Temple of Olympian Zeus - This colossal temple in the center of Athens was dedicated to Zeus, the head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC, and the temple housed a richly adorned statue, one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.
• Arch of Hadrian - A classic Triumphal Arch built by the Ancient Athenians for the Roman Emperor Hadrian, located alongside the Temple of Zeus.
• Panathenaic Stadium - Also known as ‘Kallimarmaro,’ this stadium is a highlight of Athens, where the classic Marathon concludes. It is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble.
• Syntagma - The main square of Athens, home to the Hellenic Parliament building and a focal point of Athenian life and politics. Here, you can witness the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the impressive Changing of the Guard ceremony, featuring the iconic ‘Evzones’ in their traditional uniforms.
• Monastiraki - Monastiraki Square, at the heart of the Old Town, is a lively center of city life.
• Athens - LUNCH OPTION: (No street food) If you select our lunch option during booking, enjoy a traditional 3-course Greek lunch at one of the best local family restaurants. Choose from fish, meat, or vegetarian options, accompanied by Greek salad and a starter or dessert (daily menus may vary). If you do not choose the lunch option, your driver will still allow time for a lunch break.
• Ancient Agora of Athens - ON REQUEST. This site can be added to your itinerary upon request, replacing one or two of the other scheduled sites. The Agora was the marketplace of the Ancient Greeks and the center of political and social life in Athens. It is a significant site, home to philosophers, craftsmen, and the remains of many important buildings, including an on-site museum in a recreation of an ancient market and the Temple of Hephaestus, the best-preserved ancient temple in existence.
• National Archaeological Museum - Recognized as one of the world’s greatest museums, its exhibits contain the largest collection from Greek antiquity, featuring unmissable and seminal pieces from the Gold ‘Deathmask of Agamemnon,’ leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War, to the 2000-year-old ‘Antikythera mechanism,’ the world’s first computer; the Cup of Nestor mentioned in Homer’s Iliad, the ‘Ring of Theseus,’ and masterpieces of sculpture such as the statues of Aphrodite and Poseidon. A private expert guide can be added for this site upon request (additional cost).
