Additional Information

Sparta boasts a significant history as a prominent ancient hub, renowned for its highly structured archaic military. The Dorians established it in the 9th century, and it subsequently rose to prominence as the most dominant military city, a development attributed to Lycurgus (a law-giver). The heroic king of this Greek city-state, Leonidas, also hailed from Sparta. In the historic battle of 480 BC, King Leonidas, leading 300 Spartans, claimed victory over the vast Persian army.

Casting a glance in the first millennium before Christ - My outing was excellently organized. Before leaving the agency supplied infos and documents about excavations on the archeological site of Sparta as well as a map of the area.I appreciated a lot to be almost the only one on the spot, what allowed me to catch the real spirit of this place, even if it seems that much more work must be done in order to discover new ruins. In a few words I can say that the aspect of this place corresponds perfectly to the character of the Spartan people.
