Highlights
  • Athens - Pickup from your chosen Hotel, Airbnb or apartment in Athens
  • Delphi - Delphi, once known as Pytho, is renowned for its ancient sanctuary, which became wealthy as the home of Pythia, the oracle consulted for significant decisions in the classical world. The Greeks regarded Delphi as the navel or center of the world, symbolized by the Omphalos of Delphi.
Delphi archaeological site: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Delphi is among Greece’s most significant archaeological locations. Over time, the oracle’s functions expanded to include athletic games, cultural events, and notably the Pythian games. The Temple of Apollo, the Ancient Theater, the Stadium, the Athenian Treasury, the Gymnasium, and the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia are all mesmerizing.
  • Delphi Archaeological Museum - Frieze of the Treasury of Sifnias

Naxian Sphinx: Dating back to 560 BC, this is one of the earliest artistic depictions of the demonic creature with a lion’s body, bird’s wings, and a woman’s head.

Metopes of the Athenian Treasury: From the 5th century BC, these depict scenes such as Theseus and Antiope, Theseus and the Minotaur, Theseus and the Marathonian bull, Heracles and the cattle of Geryon battling the three-bodied giant Geryon, Heracles subduing a Centaur & Cycnus, Heracles & the Nemean lion, and an Amazonomachy scene.

Omphalos: Representing the center of the earth, it was kept in Apollo’s temple.
Kleobis and Biton: Two brothers from Argos, typical kouroi from the 7th century BC.
Statue of Antinoos: Depicts the youth celebrated for his beauty and as Emperor Hadrian’s favorite, revered as a god. This statue is considered one of the finest examples of the neoclassical style revived in the 2nd century AD.
The famous Charioteer Iniohos: Part of a statuary complex featuring a chariot drawn by four horses and included a second male figure.

Great trip. Great advice. - Tas advised us to go later in the day, and he was so right. Our driver, Peter, was a great host. He answered all our questions, was very knowledgeable and was clear all day that we could go at our own pace. Lunch in Arachova was great. Great food and great view. And then of course— Delphi was amazing. And because of our later arrival, we were after the crowds. We had the museum practically to ourselves. And outside at the site the crowds were gone and the golden light and a beautiful breeze Was enchanting. The site is an amazing piece of history (that Peter filled us in on before we went). It was the center of the ancient world and now I know why.

Best tour guide - We are a family of 5 (2 teens and a 7 yo) and reserved 2 trips with Tas from Ancient Greece Tours. The first day was to Delphi and Arachova and the 2nd day was to Ancient Corinth, Acrocorinth, Isthmus Canal, and the Temple of Hera. Tas was phenomenal! He was always prompt and picked us up both days with Greek cookies and biscuits. His Mercedes van was always very clean and well stocked with cold water for us. Tas has a wealth of knowledge about the history of Greece. My husband and I were asking him a lot of questions and our conversations expanded into present-day Greece, politics, culture, his background, and so forth. We had some great conversations! He is also very kind and patient never rushing us. He was always telling us to take our time and at several of the stops, we spent more time than expected. On our 2nd day of touring, what was to be a 9-hour tour ended up being 11 hours. Tas also made reservations at 2 fantastic restaurants in both Delphi and Ancient Corinth. Our lunch at Delphi was at To Patriko Mas which had a gorgeous veranda overlooking olive fields and the Gulf of Corinth/Athens Riviera. Lunch at our 2nd trip was at Taverna Gemelos which was next to Ancient Corinth so while we were dining on their rooftop veranda, we had the best view and felt like we were dining within Ancient Corinth. We highly recommend booking with Ancient Greek Tours - truly the best tour guide we've ever had. Tas has become a friend and we are already looking forward to planning a weeklong Peloponnese tour with him.

Great overall! - We had such a great time with Tas! He was kind and and fun to chat with. He gave us some information about the sights we visited but we would have loved to know more. It was also difficult for everyone in the car to hear him. Arachova was a huge highlight but we had to ask to stop and explore on the way home even though it was listed on the itinerary. I would NOT book this tour with a group of 8 because the front seat is VERY uncomfortable for that length of a drive. Our dinner was so delicious but one member of our group saw Tas was downing beers in the other room while we were eating. He did seem to be swerving a bit on the drive home which made all of us a bit nervous. We were also given 4 different pick up times and ended up waiting outside in the rain for 15 minutes to be picked up. Overall it was a fun day but there are definitely some improvements that could be made.
