- Temple of Poseidon - Sunset is the best time to arrive at the 5th-century-B.C. Temple of the mythical sea God Poseidon. Perched on cliffs above Cape Sounio, the temple ruins, surrounded on three sides by sea, have stunning views out over the Aegean. It was mentioned in Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey. More recently, English Romantic poet Lord Byron visited this atmospheric spot in 1811 and inscribed his name at the base of one of the temple’s Doric columns.

Sounio on the cliff today stand the ruins of the ancient temple of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. The temple of Poseidon was built between 444-440 BCE. It stands at about 60 metres above sea level and like other temples has a rectangular shape. There were 34 columns originally and there are 15 of these still standing today. The columns remaining are surprisingly well preserved considering the wind up on the headland and daily exposure to the elements. Flanked on three sides by the sea, it is easy to see why this spot was an excellent vantage point for spotting incoming ships. Perfect Evening Trip - This is the perfect way to tour the Athenian Riviera and the Temple of Poseidon. You will make a few interesting stops along the way as well. Manos was a great guide and entertained us the entire trip. It was both educational and entertaining, we would definitely do this again.

Great tour of sounion and fantastic service - Good car, excellent driver and tour guide. A very pleasant trip, well worthwhile the trip. Can stop at various towns and places as you like and instruct the driver to go see what you like. Very nice car

Best Private Tours in Athens Greece and Beyond! - Highly recommend this service if you are traveling to Athens Greece. Manos is an exceptional tourguide and driver. We booked several days with him for tours in and around Athens in April 2024; he treated us like family. Manos was always on time, his tours were nicely paced, not rushed at all, full of ideas but flexible, and he is a great communicator. Manos is passionate about his business and the history of Greece. We learned so much from his love of Greece through his tours; its history, its people, as well as current culture and events. Taking at least one tour while you are in Athens with Manos is a must, he is an amazing person!

Touring Greece On Cloud Nine - My friend and I took a wonderful tour with Glykeria who gave us the best day of our trip in Athens. Every aspect of the tour was well done - the itinerary, the choice of sites, her amazingly knowledge, the transportation, and the plentiful laughter & entertainment. We also found Glykeria to be very well-traveled with interesting stories of her own. We could not have asked for a better experience! Ask for Glykeria !!!

A luxury and culture-rich way to visit the Temple of Poseidon - Glykeria is an amazing driver and person. She was kind and accommodating and full of interesting knowledge, stories, and recommendations. While this was a transfer, it felt more like a guided tour. Because of a busy day, this was the only way we could have gotten to the Temple of Poseidon and it was well worth it. Glycerin was waiting for us right on time at the end of our last tour with cold bottles water to boot. She showed us special secret spots with phenomenal views. Highly recommend.

Temple of Poseidon was worth the trip. - Great mid-day tour outside of Athens. Our guide was friendly and fun. She pointed out some spots, like the beautiful cultural center, that we would have never thought to visit. Temple of Poseidon was worth the trip and we enjoyed our lunch at the top!

Unique site at Temple of Poseidon - Interesting sites to see along the 1-2 hour drive along the Athens Riviera, the coast. Temple of Poseidon well worth it. Irini was knowledgeable and a safe driver.
