Highlights
  • Athens - Pickup from your chosen Hotel, Airbnb, or apartment in Athens
  • Corinth Canal - Visit the Isthmus Canal, the gateway to the Peloponnesus. One of the most important projects of the 19th century, an Austrian Hungarian engineering masterpiece, playing a catalytic role for Mediterranean trade. Visit the Information Centre at the Isthmus canal where you are introduced to ‘Mythical Peloponnese’.
  • Archaeological Museum of Ancient Mycenae - The Mycenaean Archaeological Museum: The most important Mycenaean artifacts from the late Bronze Age are exhibited here. You will be dazzled by the gold, grave goods, burial masks, jewelry, bronze weapons, worship idols, and frescoes fragments.
  • Archaeological Site Mycenae - Visit Mycenae Rich in Gold! King Agamemnon’s mythical kingdom sung in Homer’s epics. It is the most important and richest center of the late Bronze Age.

The Lions Gate: The main entrance of the Bronze age citadel of Mycenae erected during the 13th century BC is truly breathtaking

Grave Circles A and B: Royal cemeteries situated to the south of the Lions Gate and outside the Bronze Age citadel.
The Cyclopean Walls: The main characteristic of the Mycenaean walls is that they are made of huge limestone boulders. Only the mythical Cyclopes had the strength to move the enormous boulders that made up the walls of Mycenae and Tiryns.
The Royal Palace: Consisting of domestic apartments, the Throne Room Suite, the Grand Staircase, a collection of rooms for officers or palace officials, and the Forecourt.

The tomb of Klytemnistra, the wife of King Agamemnon and leader of the Greeks during the Trojan War is a Mycenaean tholos (beehive) tomb that is truly remarkable.

  • Citadel and Treasury of Atreus - The Treasury of Atreus: Also known as the tomb of Agamemnon is an elaborate large tholos or beehive tomb constructed during the late Bronze Age around 1250 BC. Truly remarkable!
  • Nemea - A beautiful land of soft hills with endless vineyards and great wines. The ‘California Napa Valley’ of the Peloponnese is a popular day trip from Athens for every lover of antiquity. It is here where Hercules completed his first of 12 labors slaying the Nemean lion. Fewer places in Greece combine ancient Greek temples with what feels a lot like the Napa Valley of California. Nemea should be on the itinerary of every traveler to the Peloponnese. The Temple of Zeus / Jupiter: Dating around the 4th century BC, the centerpiece of the Macedonian building program was the temple of Nemean Zeus. Three columns of which have always stood since the time of the original construction are captivating. Zeus in Nemea is the god of shepherds reflecting the remarkable valley. The Ancient baths: The Nemean baths are an athletic bathing house at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Nemea.

Returning to Athens we stop at Ancient Corinth for lunch

  • Ancient Nemea - The ancient stadium at Nemea constructed around 330BC has a track of 178 meters long with a stone water channel bordering it. The seating capacity was for approximately 40 000 visitors.
  1. The Apodyterium: The Apodyterium is where athletes got undressed, oiled their skin, and prepared for the games. The Ancient Stadium Crypt: Over 36 m. in length and for the most part in very good condition it is the entrance tunnel that makes the Nemean games unique. It is the passage through the tunnel, clad in chiton and with bare feet that effects the transformation of the participant from a modern to an ancient. The tunnel thus plays the critical role in the accomplishment of our goal to provide an opportunity for anyone and everyone to become an ancient Greek athlete. It is here we see ancient athletes’ names engraved on the walls together with dedications to the goddess of Victory, ΝΊΚΗ NIKE. The stadium track and starting grid characterized by toe grooves cut into the stone block.
  • Palivou Estate - The Wine Roads: Nemea a mythical land where Agiorgitiko wine is born.

Palivou winery: A certified organic winery, a multi-generational wine-making family with wines recognized amongst the best in Greece that can be found on wine lists throughout the country.

Here you can enjoy a fabulous wine tour and taste the award-winning wines equal to what the ancients called ‘Nectar for the Gods’

  • Ancient Corinth (Archaia Korinthos) - Treat yourself to an authentic “village style” lunch on a magnificent terrace overlooking ancient Corinth’s archaeological site and the temple of Apollo. Ambrosia for the Gods! A complimentary bonus provided by Ancient Greece Tours and a fabulous way to end the day.

Amazing! - We had a fantastic time on our day excursion! Our tour guide, Yannis, was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was very attentive to our needs, bringing us pasteries in the morning and water while we were walking the ancient sites. The winery and lunch were very nice, we all bought a bottle and the staff at the restaurant were fantastic. We had the whole Nymean site and arena to ourselves which was nice. Not crowded at all. Overall our favorite day so far on our vacation!

Great tour AWESOME guide! - Our tour guide, Manos, was incredible! He was very knowledgeable, met us right on time and gave us ample time at each location we visited to explore the ruins, take photos or enjoy the wine. We particularly liked they way he told the history or a story about the area we were about to get to so that we had some perspective going to each site. We absolutely recommend this trip for anyone interested in a brief history and tour of ancient Greece outside the immediate Athens area. The wine tasting made for a nice break during the day.

Best Day Touring with Michael - We had such a wonderful time—Michael, our driver, was on time and was absolutely great. He made sure to check and review every next step and was thorough in making sure the tour met our expectations. We had the perfect amount of time at each destination and the wine tasting was so much fun! Micheal then suggested a lunch place that was tasty and had an incredible view of the Archaia Korinthos ruins. Thank you Michael for making this a fun and enjoyable tour, we will definitely reach out again to do another tour!

Wonderful tour with a fantastic guide. - This was one of the best tours we have taken anywhere in the world. Our guide Terry was the absolute best. From the moment we started until the very end, he was vibrant, funny, knowledgeable, and just a great guy to spend the day with. The other thing that stood out was that he had a plan but reassured us that the day was about us enjoying ourselves and relaxing. If we wanted to change up something or make a pit stop, he had no problem accommodating our wishes. The historical sites are very similar in Greece, so the one thing that separates a good day from a great day is who you spend the day with and how they present the historical information. The winery (Palivou Estates) that we went to was also a lovely boutique winery with about 25 acres of grapes. They walk you thru the vineyard and into the area where they age the wine before you begin the tasting. Great wines and great people there as well. If you go on many or just one tour in Greece, this is the one to pick. Thank you, Terry....you made our last tour in Greece the best.
