Mount Lycabettus - Mount Lycabettus, also known as Lycabettos, is a Cretaceous limestone hill in Athens. At 277 meters (908 feet) above sea level, its summit is the highest point in Central Athens, with pine trees covering its base. The name also refers to the residential neighborhood below the hill’s east side.
The hill is a popular tourist spot and can be ascended via the Lycabettus Funicular, a railway that climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki (the station is on Aristippou street). At its two peaks are the 19th-century Chapel of St. George, a theatre, and a restaurant. From Lycabettus hill, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the city.
- Panathenaic Stadium - Our tour continues at the Panathenaic Stadium, where the modern Olympic Games began in 1896. Also known as the “Kallimarmaro” stadium, it is one of Athens’ highlights, where the classic Marathon ends and the only stadium in the world made entirely of marble.
- Acropolis Museum - The Acropolis Museum was established to display all significant finds from the Sacred Rock and its foothills. Upon entering the museum, look through the plexiglass floor to see the ruins of an ancient Athenian neighborhood, which has been artfully incorporated into the museum’s design.
