Come hungry for this fabulous tour! - My family of 5 had a blast on this tour! Voula was the perfect guide and by the end of the evening she was basically part of the family . We went to unique local places, tried many new things, had PLENTY of food, and learned about the culture. Highly recommend this tour and if you're lucky enough to have Voula as a guide, YAMAS!

So much more than a tasting tour! - Our guide for the day Giorgos (hope I got his name right!) was incredible!! A born storyteller, he brought the area of Athens we toured, along with the food alive for us! We probably would not have made our way into the area on our own due to the amount of graffiti, but it quickly gave way to a vibrant evening vibe that felt safe and was rich in the culture that Giorgos was able to share with us. He was also able to tell us a bit about the significance of some of the art we saw, and help us understand the link to the people of the district and what it represents (unlike some other places that carry meaning of abandonment with the intrusion of graffiti). For us, this simply could not have been a better experience, between the food and drink our guide curated for us, to keeping the walking interspersed with amazing stops along the way… don’t hesitate to book this experience, we simply CANNOT recommend it enough!!!

Eat & learn! - Had a great day with Dionysis. The public food market was a highlight for us. Delights from many small family restaurants were wonderful. It is a lot walking. About 5 miles overall.

Good guide, good food and history - Eating traditional Greek food in the restaurant with the view on the Acropolis. The lack of breverage was disappointing for the price.

Good variety of Greek foods - Our tour with Eleni took us to a number of wonderful restaurants where we could taste some Greek specialties. The portions were such that we did not eat dinner after, although a few people stopped for ice cream. As I expected, we did not go to 10 different restaurants, but had multiple tastes at a few stops. We enjoyed the food and the walk around Athens. Would have been better if Eleni had stopped to talk to us so that everyone could hear. As it was, only those walking beside her could hear her explanations while walking. No problem when we were all in the restaurant together.

Overpriced and Underfed: A Disappointing Athens Food Tour Experience That Will Leave You Starving - I am so disappointed that I do not even know where to begin. I recently booked a food tour for my parents and their guests (4 people in total) in their first trip to Athens, expecting a delightful culinary exploration of the city. However, the entire experience, led by the guide Eleni, fell significantly short of expectations. Firstly, the meet-up location caused confusion. Eleni's directions were inconsistent, leading to unnecessary stress before the tour even began. Once the group finally met her, the food experience itself was disappointing. The tour visited only three locations, and the food provided was nothing more than ordinary street food—hardly the "tastings" we anticipated. While I had booked a total of 10 tastings, only 7 dishes were presented, and these had to be shared among 4 participants plus Eleni, who also took part in the eating. The portions were shockingly small. For instance, as shown in the photos, the group was given just a small container of loukoumades (Greek doughnuts) and some plates with minimal servings of what seemed to be basic Greek pastries. These limited servings were completely insufficient for a group of 5 people to share, diluting the overall experience. A key highlight of food tours is often the opportunity for everyone to sample enough to fully appreciate each dish, but that was clearly lacking here. Furthermore, the cost per person was over $100 SGD (roughly EUR70), which is simply ridiculous considering the food portions and quality. For such a high price, we expected an authentic, fulfilling experience with ample tastings at well-chosen establishments. Instead, the limited portions, ordinary street food, and lack of attention to detail made the cost feel unjustifiable and out of proportion to what was delivered. Additionally, the tour guide, Eleni, did not provide the engaging and educational experience we were hoping for. She was neither conversational nor attentive, and despite my parents' attempts to engage her in discussions about Greek food culture, her responses were brief and detached. Rather than feeling like a curated food journey, the tour seemed rushed, as though Eleni was simply going through the motions without any real interest in making the experience enjoyable or informative. Moreover, the tour, which was advertised to last for three hours, ended just over an hour. This left my parents feeling shortchanged and disappointed. The abrupt ending made it clear that this tour did not offer the value or time that was advertised. This experience stands in stark contrast to other tours I've heard about in Athens, where participants were taken to wonderful restaurants to taste authentic Greek specialties. For instance, other groups reported large enough portions that they didn’t need dinner afterward (see August review), whereas our group barely had enough to share among five people. While it's expected that food tours might not visit 10 separate locations, a proper number of tastings and engaging stops are crucial to a successful experience. From the comparison, it seems that in other tours, the guide took the time to explain the food and culture in detail, even though some participants mentioned that it was sometimes hard to hear her while walking. Unfortunately, Eleni’s lack of engagement, combined with the insufficient portions and shorter-than-expected tour, made this experience feel incomplete and unsatisfactory. In conclusion, my parents' tour with Eleni did not live up to expectations, especially considering the high price tag of over $100 SGD per person (EUR70). From poor communication about the meet-up location to the minimal food, lack of interaction from the guide, and shortened tour time, the entire experience felt rushed and overpriced. The small portions shown in the pictures are a clear indication that the experience was underwhelming and not worth the price paid. This was supposed to be a highlight of their visit to Athens, but it ended up being one of the least enjoyable parts of their trip.
