Auckland America Cup Sailing - Unique and very enjoyable experience. Great tour of the harbor on a historic and fast boat. Was able to take the helm and help with line handling. Exceeded expectations with very knowledgeable crew!

A wonderful afternoon sailing experience - We had our America’s Cup sailing experience on our first day in Auckland, and it was the perfect way to start our trip. The staff on board was very professional, as well as welcoming. They made us feel safe the entire ride, and they also helped make sure we had a good sailing experience. There were several opportunities for guests on board to “help out” with the sail as well, which was a fun way to keep the group engaged throughout the experience.

Beautiful Day on the Water - Fantastic experience in Auckland, the site of previous America's Cup races. Great crew. You can partipate by being a grinder raising and trimming the sails and taking the wheel if you like or just relax and enjoy the tour.

Great sailing experience but check booking details - So this review has two parts. First, the sail on the boats was amazing. Got to pilot the boat as well as work as a grinder; great experience. The crew was entertaining and had appropriate emphasis on safety. Felt very comfortable. Second, I had originally booked for 2, then later amended the count to 4. I paid for 4 via the viator app and got confirmation of payment and 4 people. When arrived at provider location, they didn't show the amended list, only the original two. Evidently there was an issue between the provider and viator. The provider tried to contact viator to resolve the issue, but had to wait over 1 hour and hung up on the call. Originally it appeared we were not going to be able to take the tour but the provider moved us to the next day, which we were fortunately able to do. We had an even better time because two boats sailed against each other, sort of, during the sail and made for great photos. Somehow viator had not communicated the amendment properly (which was made over 2 months in advance). I would have been extremely upset if the provider not been able to work this out and was very accommodating.

While we were unable to... - While we were unable to enjoy the full 2 hours sailing (no wind), we did enjoy the tour. I didn’t need too much excitement so it was perfect for me. It’s was a great way to see parts of Auckland from a different perspective. It helped that it was a beautiful day.

Not great! - Overall - not a geat experience. The good news - yacht was very presentable, crew were polite and helpful and everything started on time. The bad news - there was no wind on the day this trip took place. We headed out into Auckland bay under deisel power, hoisted the sails and sat motionless. After a number of unsuccessful relocations (using deisel power) there was still no wind/sailing. Skipper apologised and made the point that all guests would receive a voucher to allow for another trip and clearly stated it could be used by anyone at any time. We reurned to harbour . (One note - for a tiny amount of time we moved - very slowly - under sail power as we returned to harbour.) I subsequently requested a 50% refund (£90 back from our £180 cost). Request was made to Trip Advisor - who logged the request and completely failed to respond (now 25 days later) I contacted Explore directly and they refused to consider a partial refund. Summary - the experience would have been very good had there been a wind. Unfortunately there was not so it was very flat. Clearly the weather cannot be planned but to take people's money knowing that fast sailing was not possible seems wrong. I acknowledge that a voucher was provided (not transferable according to Explore office) but this does not seem satisfactory as few people will be able to take advantage of it during a typical vacation (where slots were fully booked). A 50% refund seems like a reasonable request. Overall not happy with Explore or Trip Advisor - both of whom are welcome to challenge this factually correct review.
