• Devonport - Mt Victoria stands as the tallest volcano on the North Shore peninsula.

European settlers named this maunga Mt Victoria in honor of Queen Victoria. It was also known as Flagstaff Hill by early Europeans, due to a signal station for the Port of Auckland being established at its peak in 1841. Since 1880, Mt Victoria has been designated as a public reserve.

Takarunga / Mt Victoria served as a military site against a potential Russian invasion at the close of the 19th century and is home to one of the world’s last remaining disappearing guns.
