• Westhaven Marina - Home to over 3,000 sail and powerboats of all sizes. This is why Auckland is known as the City of Sails.
• Auckland Harbour Bridge - Affectionately called the coathanger. Offers great views both east and west of Waitemata Harbour.
• Takapuna Beach - Al Fresco living at its finest. Restaurants and shopping on one side of the road, golden sand beach on the other. Expansive sea views.
• Orewa Beach - Ocean views through Orewa to a photo point, more coast, and a stop at Wenderholm or on to Warkworth. Great views on a clear day.
• Waiwera - Waiwera Hill. Stop here for excellent views of Hauraki Gulf and Wenderholm. This is panoramic.
• Puhoi - Early settlers’ location. Excellent restored church and the famed Puhoi pub. Stop if you wish.
• Warkworth - A very nice country town, picturesque by the river. We drive through.
• Matakana Village - Has a Saturday farmers market that is very good and well-known throughout the region. Stop on Saturdays.
• Pakiri - Leaving Matakana, an excellent coastal drive to Mathesons Bay, perhaps the best beach in Auckland. Then on to Leigh for its views and to the top of Pakiri Hill. Here, panoramic 360-degree views of this magnificent region.
• Morris & James Pottery - World-renowned pottery near Matakana. Needs to be seen. Really good stuff.
• Sandspit - Beautiful harbour and a reliable stop for coffee and a quick bite. Then to Brick Bay Hill for excellent views of the wider Hauraki Gulf.
• Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron - Drive back to the city from the north to the Yacht Club. Home of the America’s Cup. There is a restaurant there for afternoon tea or meals. Then to drop off.

There are some must-visit places in New Zealand. Start with a trip across the Harbour Bridge to Takapuna, known for its beach and vibrant restaurant scene. Next, head to Orewa for more stunning golden-sand beaches. Continue to Puhoi, famous for its historic hotel and impressive early-settlers church. Enjoy breathtaking coastal views from Waiwera Hill, a perfect spot for photos, before moving on to Warkworth, a charming riverside village.

Then, visit Matakana and the Morris and James Pottery. Head to the idyllic Jackson’s Bay, a place everyone dreams of living. Leigh Harbour offers a magnificently picturesque setting. Climb to the top of Pakiri Hill for panoramic coastal views of the region. Return to Matakana for its shops, restaurants, and the lively Saturday market.
