- Caves average at a temperature of 16-17 degrees Celsius year-round.
- After heavy frosts, areas that don’t see the sun can stay icy so please take care.
- After heavy rain, the boardwalks and tracks may become slippery so please take care.
- Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for the conditions, sun protection, jacket/warm layer, & any essential personal items.
- This is a guided walking tour and sensible walking footwear is recommended.
- Bring a camera or a phone with camera capability as this is the perfect place to get some great experiences photos.
- Please dress with an additional layer of clothing (in winter) & closed toe footwear.
- Always stay on the boardwalks or marked paths.
- Do not drop or throw items anywhere in the park; apart from making an unsightly mess, you may get boiling water splashed back at you.
- During the summer season, it is essential to have water or liquid refreshment.
- No photography is permitted inside the Waitomo caves, and cameras and Go Pros cannot be taken on the tour.
- No backpacks or large bags allowed in cave due to delicate formations.
- Please do not touch the formation in the cave as it discoloured easily, please help us protect our cave.
- Easy and good fitness level required. and you must be able to climb and descend stairs and walk on unpaved or uneven terrain.
- The caves are accessible to those with reasonable mobility, as there are good handrails and paths.
