Highlights
  • Matiatia Ferry Terminal - Grant will be your personal guide for the day. He will greet you as you step onto the beautiful Waiheke Island. Once your small group of like minded wine lovers are all together your adventure begins with a drive up to Oneroa Village where we will stop briefly to get you into a Waiheke frame of mind. We then drive along the most beautiful forested back roads looking down to the sparkling blue water as we head towards your first Waiheke winery. We avoid the heavily beaten tour routes and focus on the small old school wineries where the people are interesting and the wine is gorgeous being made from hand picked grapes from the vineyard surrounding you. Every wine maker has a unique approach and our guests often comment on the relaxed flow of the tour and nice contrasting boutique wineries and the palpable sweet vibe of this ancient Jurassic island. We spend up to an hour at each of 3 uniquely different wineries and we have some wonderful lunch options for you to choose from. If you have to get back at a particular time let us know or if you want to stay on for an early dinner we can help you with that. Cheers!

Great Boutique Wineries and Services - Great is a great host and takes you to fantastic wineries off the beaten path. He has extensive knowledge of the region and is a great conversationalist. I would highly recommend you book with him over the big hop one/offs or larger corporation services. We had a great time!

Fun, Local Wine Tour Experience - We had a great time on this wine tour! Grant is a knowledgeable local guide that brought us to some beautiful wineries away from the crowds while also giving us a tour of the island along the way. Grant runs this himself so it was also nice to support a local tour guide.

Support this local business!! - I booked this tour based on the brilliant reviews I’d seen and it did not disappoint. I wanted a small group tour and surprisingly it ended up being a private tour which was great for us! Our tour guide Grant met us at the ferry terminal and then drove us into the town and allowed us to have a look around and get coffee. The first vineyard we went to we tried 7 wines! Honestly some of the best wine we have tried before and we ended up buying some bottles to take home. The second vineyard we went to is shown in the first photo. We tried 3 wines, not as good as the first vineyard we went to, but paired with a beautiful view and great weather we would’ve stayed longer if we could. The third vineyard we went to had Spanish influence in its decoration and food. We tried 4 wines and a ‘port-style’ wine, all with food pairings. The food pairings really brought out the flavour of the wines, they went amazingly well together. I am more of a white wine drinker but the ‘port-style’ wine was my favourite and was really easy to drink. It is worth noting that all the staff at each of the vineyards were extremely knowledgable about their wines. They explained their wine making process, the flavours of each wine and the ageing and bottling of their wines. It was also great to have a guide who knew so much about Waiheke Island. Grant provided some commentary and facts about the island as we drove around, took us to a great lunch spot that all the locals love and when he found out that I preferred white wine, he decided to take us to a different vineyard to suit me (instead of a majority red wine vineyard that was originally planned). Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day, I highly recommend this tour, it is important to support the locals and you will have a great experience choosing this tour.

Absolute must-book - Grant is very accommodating and knowledgeable about Waiheke, taking you to three vineyards that offer a total of 15 samples and snacks. He takes you off the beaten path and away from the larger group tours. Amazing way to see the island and sample award winning wines from expert wine-makers.

What a day - we loved Waiheke Island! - What a day - we loved Waiheke Island! Waivino wine tour was a wonderful way to see the island while also enjoying three different wineries. Grant was a great guide having lived on the island for some time. He was our driver for the day so provided some facts about Waiheke, the wineries, and the wine makers. We also did a quick stop at a gallery of one of the local artists. Would highly recommend this experience!

Why 2 different prices? - The tour was ok. The issue I have is that we paid 298 and the couple with us paid 263. How is this possible. We were on same tour together. Viator, would you contact me on this situation?
