Once your small group of like-minded wine enthusiasts is gathered, your adventure begins with a drive to Oneroa Village, where we will pause briefly to immerse you in the Waiheke atmosphere. We then travel along the most picturesque forested back roads, offering views of the sparkling blue water, as we head to your first Waiheke winery. We steer clear of the heavily trafficked commercial tour routes, focusing instead on small, traditional wineries where the people are fascinating and the wine is exquisite, crafted from hand-picked grapes from the surrounding vineyards. Each winemaker has a distinct approach, and our guests often remark on the relaxed flow of the tour, the charming contrast of boutique wineries, and the delightful vibe of this ancient Jurassic island. Please book your ferry ticket at islanddirect.co.nz for a bookable seat with great service. Island Direct leaves from Pier 13. Ideally take the 9:15am over and the 4:15pm back if available. If you are unable to get a seat please message us for more options.

Full tour with small group - A small group tour allowed us to enjoy a relaxing tour of the winery.
We moved in four couples of eight, so it was nice to have a small trip and a full tasting.

Small group, small wineries, great wine! - A small group tour to some of the smaller wineries on Waiheke Island. This is not your busload descending on a large vineyard to sample “standard wines” tour. Instead, Grant, the tour operator, takes you to smaller out-of-the-way wineries to taste some excellent but perhaps less well known wines. And they were all excellent!

Great Selections - Really enjoyed the history along the way. The places we stopped at were great at picks! Every drop of wine was delicious! And the presenters were great in. The own unique way.

Beautiful views! - Had a beautiful time on the island! There was just the four of us so made it very personal! Grant took us to some lovely boutique wineries (the wines were goid too!) and showed us a lot of the island! Had a yummy lunch at a restaurant by the ocean! Thankyou ❤️

Fabulous Wines and Tour - Grant was a fantastic guide for our Waiheke Island tour! We loved going to the smaller, unexpected wineries. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend taking this particular tour.

Great Boutique Wineries and Services - Great is a great host and takes you to fantastic wineries off the beaten path. He has extensive knowledge of the region and is a great conversationalist. I would highly recommend you book with him over the big hop one/offs or larger corporation services. We had a great time!

Fun, Local Wine Tour Experience - We had a great time on this wine tour! Grant is a knowledgeable local guide that brought us to some beautiful wineries away from the crowds while also giving us a tour of the island along the way. Grant runs this himself so it was also nice to support a local tour guide.

Support this local business!! - I booked this tour based on the brilliant reviews I’d seen and it did not disappoint. I wanted a small group tour and surprisingly it ended up being a private tour which was great for us! Our tour guide Grant met us at the ferry terminal and then drove us into the town and allowed us to have a look around and get coffee. The first vineyard we went to we tried 7 wines! Honestly some of the best wine we have tried before and we ended up buying some bottles to take home. The second vineyard we went to is shown in the first photo. We tried 3 wines, not as good as the first vineyard we went to, but paired with a beautiful view and great weather we would’ve stayed longer if we could. The third vineyard we went to had Spanish influence in its decoration and food. We tried 4 wines and a ‘port-style’ wine, all with food pairings. The food pairings really brought out the flavour of the wines, they went amazingly well together. I am more of a white wine drinker but the ‘port-style’ wine was my favourite and was really easy to drink. It is worth noting that all the staff at each of the vineyards were extremely knowledgable about their wines. They explained their wine making process, the flavours of each wine and the ageing and bottling of their wines. It was also great to have a guide who knew so much about Waiheke Island. Grant provided some commentary and facts about the island as we drove around, took us to a great lunch spot that all the locals love and when he found out that I preferred white wine, he decided to take us to a different vineyard to suit me (instead of a majority red wine vineyard that was originally planned). Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our day, I highly recommend this tour, it is important to support the locals and you will have a great experience choosing this tour.
