Must do in the South West in Augusta. - The third great cape of the world. The tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia. The Great staff provide a great experience at the historical precinct. Well worth a look.

Wind and rainbows - It was sunny when we arrived for our booked tour. The wind was significant and had the flags flying at attention! We had a short wait while the previous tour was in session. We used or time to walk around the lighthouse and take in the information. Our tour guide was full of information and history about the lighthouse, which was complimented by "The Lightkeeper's Cottage Interpretive Centre".

Great lighthouse - Took the tour and climbed to the top of the lighthouse. The tour is excellent and it explains the operation of the light house a hundred years back.

Room with a view. - What an incredible place. We climbed 276 steps to the top to see the South and West meet. We were told the lighthouse could fit into Jewel Cave, which is incredible given it is the largest lighthouse on mainland Australia. It is well worth the tour and we suggest you go earlier to see the interactive display in one of the original cottages. We arrived for the last tour of the day so missed trying out the cafe which looked a fantastic place to have lunch and watch the tumultuous waves.

Great views where two oceans meet - We took the guided tour of the lighthouse with a very enthusiastic guide. He talked about the history of the area, the need for the lighthouse and how it was constructed and run. We climbed the 176 steps to the top and braved the wind to stand on the outdoor platform. It was a good vantage point to look out over headland one way, and the meeting of two oceans the other way (Indian and Southern oceans). Informative tour.

Where the oceans meet. - We didn't have the leg strength to take the challenging climb to the top, happy to view the exterior and hear the stories of its importance to shipping in the rough seas beyond. Enjoyed viewing the various buildings and hearing/reading the history of each and marvelled at the tenacity and contributions of the early occupants. Bitterly cold wind on the day, the warmth of the cafe welcoming on arrival and afterwards.
