This tour is a magical journey through the sparkling frozen tundra, chasing the colorful swirls of the aurora borealis overhead. Learn the basic science behind this phenomenon and how to photograph it using your own camera. You’ll capture stunning landscapes and portraits, all included. The trek is a 6-8 hour tour. Depending on cloud coverage, we drive 15-40 miles north of Fairbanks to one of many excellent viewing locations. At the stop, we set up a cozy heated warming shelter for you. We also offer complimentary gourmet pizzas, hot from our 930-degree stone-fired pizza oven, along with hot cocoa, coffee, and chai tea. This adventure always delivers a memorable experience with lots of fun and extras to enjoy while we wait for the aurora to appear. Nathan is a professional portrait photographer by trade, which is something you’d be hard pressed to find on any other Aurora tour in the Fairbanks area. He has 9 years experience as an engagement/wedding photographer. Other tours offer “free portraits” but not to the level of expertise that Nathan will provide, he uses controlled supplemental studio lighting to achieve unmatched quality and sharpness with techniques he developed over 7 years of painstaking practice, specifically in aurora portraiture. We also provide you with complementary gear to help keep you warm and safe: insulated over boots, hand/toe warmers, headlamps, ice crampons for traction, water bottles etc. But what everything boils down to is great photos. The photos speak for themselves and we want to get you some of your OWN!! Not only will you have a top tier photographer as a guide but Nathan also has more than 20 years of Alaska backcountry artic survival skills and offers expertise in all things Alaska adventure.

A Beautiful Sight - Nathan is just as excited about seeing the Aurora lights as his guests! He goes above and beyond in making this tour special from setting up a warming tent to making pizzas and warm drinks to taking awesome photos! And while you’re in the warming tent, Nathan is monitoring for Aurora lights activity to ensure viewing opportunities. He is constantly taking photos that you can download on your device and/or purchase.

Pick this adventure with Nathan - Incredible human, photographer, Aurora chaser. Hot pizza, hot beverages, truly great (not awkward) conversation. Fun science behind the Aurora and photography. The Chinese lanterns and light photography while waiting for Aurora all fun and amazing. We are already rebooking for next year. Worth every penny.

Aurora tourist - I can’t recommend this bus tour highly enough! Nathan is incredibly knowledgeable about the Aurora and when and where to find it. He was flexible with scheduling in order to ensure I had the best shot. And we were not disappointed! And the warming hut with pizza and hot drinks was perfect. The photos he took turned out jaw droppingly beautiful! If you’re coming to see the Lights, have Nathan show them to you, you will not be disappointed!

Top Rated and Amazing - This was the best experience of an entirely frigid Alaska experience.
We went on this tour against - temperatures in F. THanks to our amazing guide Nathan and his overall setup it was possible to really enjoy the experience without frostbite. Lot of the other companies offer the van service but Nathan goes above and beyond with warm shelter, food, drinks and amazing pictures of you and your loved ones.
The viewing is, of course, dependent on Nature but Nathan is very knowledgeable and friendly and truly goes above and beyond

Great photos, delicious pizza, and a warm tent - Nathan was a great tour guide. He drove our group about a half hour out of Fairbanks to a place where he knew the aurora viewing would be great. He set up his warming tent, turned on the heaters and gave us each a seat. We had a great time laughing and telling stories while Nathan cooked our pizzas (he even managed to find one that didn't have olive oil for a member of our group who is allergic to it). The pizzas are gourmet. We learned from Nathan which apps are the best for tracking the aurora and how to use them. While we waited for the aurora to come out, Nathan took pictures of us with the Chinese lanterns...fun! When the aurora finally came out, he took lots of photos of us. We were near a lake and were able to get some nice reflections of the aurora. Nathan emailed us all of the photos two days after our event and they are terrific. We were able to download all of them for free. The pizza he makes is delicious. We learned the importance of being patient and waiting for the aurora. And when it's cold out, it is really nice to jump back into the warming tent for a few minutes to stop shivering. I highly recommend this tour. If possible, take this tour early in your stay in Fairbanks so that you can learn aurora viewing tips to use during the rest of your stay.

Lots of fun - Nathan was a fantastic guide. He was fun and easy to talk with. Learned a lot about Alaska, the Aurora, and the Fairbanks area. The weather unfortunately didn’t cooperate with us as it was complete thick cloud coverage that did not let up. We did still however have a great time! The pizza and drinks were yummy. He had a warm shelter set up to get out of the cold. We saw some moose on the drive both in and out. Took some cool photos while we were there. He was also very accommodating in giving us another date to come back for free because of the weather. He has a good set up, and is a great host. You will have fun.

The best! - This tour is an absolute YES YES AND YES! Aurora experience can’t get any better with them. We had the best experience chasing Northern lights with Nathan. It was a lucky day for us as we could spot northern lights in the clear sky. Nathan definitely has the best set up for the aurora tour. He picked us up on time, shared stories, very efficiently chased aurora with us and took us to a beautiful spot. He sets up a heated shelter at the spot for us to get comfortable in the freezing cold. I couldn’t imagine we’ll get to experience hot pizza with a pizza oven at such high altitude. Nathan also took the best pictures of us and the northern lights! I would definitely recommend booking this tour!

Great tour and guide - I had a great time on this tour even though we weren’t able to see the lights due to cloud cover. Nathan was a great guide and did his best to get us to a place to see them. It was -10 that night and he was prepared and everyone stayed very warm and well fed! Very much recommend this tour. I’ll definitely be back.

What a great time! - What a great experience! Our tour guy did a wonderful job at answering all of our random questions, the Chinese lanterns were so much fun! We didn’t get to see the lights but it was a very good time! The pizza was yummy and it was so much fun! Our photos came out so epic!! Would totally recommend!
