- Coimbra - Coimbra is home to one of the world’s oldest universities, overlooking the Mondego River, which witnessed the growth of this former capital city.
- Fatima - The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima (Santuário de Fátima) ranks among the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites globally, drawing 4 to 5 million visitors annually. Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three shepherd children reportedly experienced six apparitions of the Virgin Mary, who conveyed various messages and predictions. During the final apparition, around 50,000 onlookers claimed to see the sun move in the sky in a manner that defied cosmological laws.
- Nazare - Nazare is a picturesque coastal town known for its beaches, seafood restaurants, and stunning ocean viewpoints. While summer attracts sunbathers, Nazaré is a surfer’s paradise for most of the year, with Praia do Norte’s massive waves, reaching nearly 30 meters, making headlines.
- Batalha - The town of Batalha grew around the Monastery of Santa Maria de Vitória, built in 1386 to fulfill a vow by Portuguese King Dom João I to the Virgin Mary after Portugal’s victory over Castile at the Battle of Aljubarrota on August 14, 1385. Grand celebrations marking this victory are held annually in August near the monastery.
- Alcobaca - Visitors flock to Alcobaca to see the UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Monastery of Santa Maria d’Alcobaça. The church’s transept houses the tombs of King Pedro I and his mistress, Inês de Castro, who was assassinated in 1355 by order of Pedro’s father, King Afonso IV. After ascending to the throne, Pedro had her remains moved to Alcobaça and, according to legend, crowned her as queen posthumously, compelling court members to kiss her decomposing hand in homage.
- Obidos - Obidos was a wedding gift from King Denis of Portugal to his queen in 1282, as she had expressed her affection for it. The town’s cobbled streets, whitewashed houses with colorful trim, and imposing medieval castle create a magical atmosphere. Despite its small size, Obidos boasts numerous attractions and features, making it a delightful place to visit.

Absolutely Perfect Day - Absolutely Astounding Service! We had a fabulous day with Gustavo. What a perfect guide- patient, knowledgeable, helpful, beyond what was expected. Our Airbnb host sent the wrong address - and Gustavo stuck it out with us far beyond his hours to help us locate the correct location. We saw gorgeous sights on the way even though our original itinerary was rerouted due to forest fires. Thank you for such a wonderful day.

Interesting transfer from Porto to Lisbon! - Unfortunately due to forest fire around Porto area, we didn't get to visit Aveiro. Driver suggested just Obidos for a longer visit....it was a great suggestion & we spent 4.5 hours enjoying the town.
