Duration: 10 hours
Cancellation: 24 hours
Highlights
  • Konnos Bay - Konnos beach is one of the most beautiful in the south east part of Cyprus as well as the whole island. Excellent place for swimming, hanging out and snorkeling. Many times sea turtles are spotted here. Depending on the duration package booked, we will either pause very briefly here or go for a dip.
  • Agioi Anargyroi Chapel - This is a small chapel right on the rugged coast towards the north east part of Cape Greko park. The style is reminiscent of Greek aegean islands rather than of Cyprus. There is a cave/sanctuary close to the modern chapel. A bit further on the coast towards the south one can find ‘Kamara tou Koraka’ natural arch. It is an interested place to visit, though now going on it is prohibited and can be dangerous.
  • Cape Greco View Point - Cape Greko rock is an omposing mass that can be seen from afar (upto the coastline near Xylofagou. From here one enjoys excellent views of the whole park, the sea and beyond. There at least two different itineraries we can take for the walk. One of them is along the coast all the way whereas the other one passes through here. Usually we choose the later and ascend (and consequently descend) the rock.
  • Sea Caves - The Sea Caves of Cape Greko (know by Greek Cypriots as ‘Palathkia’ or ‘Palaces’ in English) is a cove with a collection of sea caves and a major attraction in the area. It is thought that in older times (before mass tourism) this was a place used by Monachus monachus seals to give birth and raise the young ones.

There is another collection of Sea Caves near Agia Napa, which is in fact the end of our walking trip. It takes teh guide between 20-30 minutes to retrieve the car. At this time the walkers could explore the sea caves (they include the so called ‘Lovers bridge’), visit the nearby beach of Glyky Nero or visit the free open air sculpture museum nearby.

  • Agioi Saranta Cave Church - This is a very particular cave church in Protaras. We visit here depending on the package (if we have enough time) and depending on the pace of the walk, etc.

Additional Information

This scenic coastal walk begins and ends at the stunning Konnos Beach, located at the northern tip of Cape Greko Park. The usual route spans 10 km along the rugged coastline. Cape Greko Park is a quaint park nestled between the lively beach resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras. The path passes by key attractions in the area, including the Agioi Anargyroi Chapel (and its nearby cave), the Kamara tou Koraka natural arch, Cape Greko Rock, and the Cape Greko Sea Caves Cove (also known as Palathkia or ‘Palaces’). Cape Greko Park is also an excellent spot for birdwatchers, particularly during the spring migration. The waters on the east side are typically very calm. During the hot season, sea turtles visit the area to feed. In the past, the Mediterranean monk seal was also present, though now only a few individuals are occasionally seen.

Fun exploration without the crowds - Nice walks and fantastic swimming spots. Phivos is very knowledgeable about Cypriot myths and history (which I enjoyed discussing) as well as flora and fauna (I think I disappointed Phivos with my complete lack of knowledge here). After the walk we checked out some beautiful chapels and churches. A great way to see Cape Greko and surrounding area!
