Head down the mountain northbound, passing by Caldeira Velha’s environmental centre for information on the volcanic origin of the islands, biodiversity, geodiversity, and geothermal resources.
Optionally take a thermal bath in Caldeira Velha’s hot springs, or further ahead on the refreshing cold waterfall of Salto do Cabrito, surrounded by untouched beautiful lush green flora.
With any time left, further down the mountain you can visit Ribeira Grande’s historical centre and 16th century fountain of Largo de São Pedro, ending at northern Santa Barbara Beach.

From Ponta Delgada city center by auto, head East along the coast and follow directions to Vila Franca do Campo. Once in Vila Franca do Campo, descend towards sea level and the Marina where our Base and Yellow Boats are stationed, and Free Parking can be found.

Beautiful tour! - Very friendly guide with a lot of knowledge (Sanne) who took us to beautiful viewpoints over the volcano and continued the tour along the water sources and the waterfall.

It was a wonderful and unique experience. We highly recommend - We had almost no communication from the ship when at sea, but the Azores Whale Watching TERRA AZUL did everything they could in helping us to be able to take the excursion when we arrive at the port. They were very professional in arranging the transportation. The tour was very interesting and our guide - a young lady, was very knowledgeable. She even personally helped us when walking on uneven grounds - We are senior citizens with some disability. Soaking in the hot springs was unique experience. We wish we come again. Magdalena i Howard

Great way to spend an afternoon. - Very personable and adaptive. We did not see the lake at the beginning because of the thick fog, so we did the beach and the baths first then returned to the view point and were able to see some parts of the lake. Everything went well and smooth.

Beautiful views and interesting places to visit with a good guide - Great views, impressive swift at Ribiera Grande. Guide Alex was great! Especially liked the falls and surf beach.

Unique adventure - Alexandra was spectacular! Very informative and truly accommodating. I was the only one on this tour and felt like special treatment. Never felt rushed to see the sites. Felt like I was seeing hidden treasures on the island.
Although the weather did not permit to going to Lagoa do Fogo, it was still Worth the adventure.

A great way with limited time to see whales. - Captain Miguel was a safe minded guide and navigated to great dolphin pods and families of sperm whales. A great ocean experience topped off with thermal baths and tour of WW2 bunkers and mountain waterfalls.

Wonderful tour - Whale watching and Lagoa do Fogo - The tour was great. The first part of the tour was whale watching and the guide and driver really made it a terrific experience. They were extremely knowledgeable about the marine life and birds. We were able to see whales and dolphins. The company really respects and cares for the environment. This messaging was throughout the tour, which was great to see.
The second part of the tour was Lagoa do Fogo. This was great and allowed us to see great views of the crater and experience a waterfall and thermal pools.

Disappointing experience - We booked this tour in order to get some interesting info about the island, learn more about it and expand our knowledge from experienced guides (the description provided to us about this tour said it will be run by knowledgeable Biologist/Naturalist guides). But actually it has been just driving from point A to point B, to the places where we could go on our own, by our car! I understand it might be useful to have this tour for visitors without a car, but for us it was actually a total waste of time and money. The tour guides had no knowledge about the island, shared no interesting stories with us and we could feel they have arrived to the island very recently. I really don´t undertand how a guided tour can be organize without a professional guides and the company charges for it. It was very disapointing. It should be in the description that its recommended for people who are not driving, and remove the part about knowledgeable Biologist/ Naturalist.
