Unique experience well worth the detour - This is such a cool and unique experience. We are foodies and like to cook and couldn’t pass up an experience that explored such an interesting ingredient and staple of Japanese food. The car was 15 acres and is one of the biggest producers of wasabi in Japan/world. The guide was very knowledgeable and guided us through this enormous farm efficiently. We got to see, taste and learn about wasabi. Definitely gave us new insights on Japanese cuisine and culture. We were staying in Nagano. But easily travelled to Akashina via train and went to farm via taxi. Highly recommend to friends and family when they come up this way. Would be a good experience in any weather.

Interesting tour with great guide - Tom was a very nice guide, he took us to less known spots in the farm and also translated some of the main information in the farm's museum, which is mostly in Japanese. He was also very open to talk to us about Japanese culture and gave us great tips for our upcoming destinations in Japan, so we highly recommend this tour!

Visit the Daio Wasabi farm - The visit went very well. Sylvain and Sayuko are excellent guides who have clear explanations full of anecdotes about the farm but also, more broadly, about the region. Having had a great time, I highly recommend.

Wasabi Ice Cream--who knew? - We had a relaxing and informative afternoon exploring the Wasabi Farm with Naomi. She was a great guide who spoke excellent English (she was an English teacher in her prior life) and provided insights into not only all-things-wasabi, but also the surrounding region and Japanese culture in general. If you are a foodie interested in a deeper dive into the food you consume, or just want a slightly less standard experience while vacationing in Japan, I highly recommend taking this tour with Naomi. And try the wasabi ice cream--it's subtle and surprisingly delicious!

Great hosts - This was a great tour! Our train was cancelled from Nagano, so we had to take the bus to get to Matsumoto. Sylvain and Carol were extremely gracious and stayed an extra hour so that they could give us the full tour. We had some great wasabi ice cream and learned a lot about wasabi! Highly recommend!

Don’t waste your money - Very disappointed. Very little discussion about wasabi. The farm itself is free to visit so I had an expectation that a paid tour would involve so behind the scenes access that the general public who visit for free don’t get. I would recommend the farm but not the tour. The guide also had little knowledge of wasabi, and spent most of the time talking about herself (from Canada, now lives in Japan for 30 years, karate instructor, English teacher now tour guide, married a Japanese man, adopted a Japanese child, lives in the foothills of a mountain) very disappointing!
