- Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Begin your full-day tour with a pickup from your hotel in either Cairo or Giza by a tour guide to visit Sakkara. Situated 40 km southwest of Cairo, Saqqara is a significant cemetery of Memphis, one of the most crucial cities in ancient Egyptian history. The site’s name likely originates from Sokar, the god of this necropolis.
Saqqara serves as an open-air museum, showcasing the entirety of ancient Egyptian history. It is the burial site for kings and noblemen from the first two dynasties (c.3040–2686 BC) and is home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser (c.2686–2667 BC).
The pyramids of notable kings from the Old Kingdom’s Fifth (c.2494–2345 BC) and Sixth (c.2345–2181 BC) Dynasties are found in Saqqara. Among them, the pyramid of Unas (also known as Wenis; c.2375–2345 BC) contains the oldest pyramid burial chamber adorned with texts, known as the Pyramid Texts.
- Memphis Tours - Memphis, the city and capital of ancient Egypt, was a vital center throughout much of Egyptian history. Located south of the Nile River delta, on the river’s west bank, it is about 15 miles (24 km) south of modern Cairo. The cemeteries, or necropolises, of Memphis, where Egypt’s famous pyramids are situated, are closely linked to the ancient city’s site. From north to south, the main pyramid fields include: Abū Ruwaysh, Giza, Zāwiyat al-ʿAryān, Abū Ṣīr, Ṣaqqārah, and Dahshūr. In 1979, the Memphis archaeological zone was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Bent Pyramid - Dahshur was the southern section of the Memphis cemetery, the capital of ancient Egypt. Pyramids from the Old and Middle Kingdoms were constructed on this hill. Sneferu, the first king of the 4th Dynasty, selected the rocky plateau of Dahshur to build his initial pyramid to rival King Djoser’s pyramid in Saqqara, but it was left incomplete. This first attempt resulted in a bent shape, but he successfully constructed a complete pyramid nearby, known as the Red Pyramid. Close by, the Middle Kingdom pyramids, starting with King Amenemhat II’s pyramid, remain, albeit in poor condition. The pyramid of King Senwosret III is encircled by the tombs of the princesses Sit-Hathor and Ment.
The Black Pyramid of King Amenemhat III is also in a deteriorated state. Despite the erosion of its stones, it still stands at a distance from Sneferu’s pyramid.
