Serapeum - The Serapeum of Saqqara served as the ancient Egyptian burial site for the sacred bulls of the Apis cult at Memphis. These bulls were believed to be incarnations of the god Ptah, destined to become immortal after death as Osiris-Apis, a name that evolved to Serapis (Σέραπις) in the Hellenistic period, and Userhapi (ⲟⲩⲥⲉⲣϩⲁⲡⲓ) in Coptic. It is part of the Saqqara necropolis, which also includes several other animal catacombs, notably the burial vaults of the mother cows of the Apis.
