- Memphis and Sakkara - Begin your day with a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle pick-up from your Cairo hotel. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll journey to the ancient city of Memphis, located approximately 24 kilometers south of Cairo. Although much of this pharaonic city has vanished, the open-air museum is a must-see. Here, you can admire the colossal fallen statue of Ramesses II. Memphis, founded around 3,100 BC, is the legendary city of Menes, the king who unified Upper and Lower Egypt.
After exploring the historic city of Memphis, continue to Saqqara, Egypt’s oldest burial ground. Situated on a desert plateau, it is crowned by the Zoser step pyramid and its funerary complex, which includes temples and tombs. This is the world’s oldest stone building. Visit the pyramid of Unas and the Mastabas, also known as the tombs of Nobles.
- Pyramids of Giza - Next, head to the Pyramids of Giza, located on the west bank of the Nile, facing Cairo. The Giza plateau is home to the three pyramids built by Cheops, Chepren, and Mycerinus, all guarded by the enigmatic Sphinx, a mythical statue with a lion’s body and a human head.
Five thousand years ago, Giza became the royal burial site for Memphis, the Pharaoh’s capital. The three pyramids and the Sphinx were constructed during the 4th dynasty of Egypt’s Old Kingdom. Around 2,500 BC, King Khufu, the second pharaoh of the fourth dynasty, ordered the construction of his tomb at Giza. On average, over 2 million stone blocks were used to build Khufu’s pyramid, with the heaviest blocks forming the ceiling of Khufu’s burial chamber. Khufu’s son, the next in the royal lineage, commissioned his own pyramid complex, which includes the Sphinx. Each pyramid features a mortuary temple and a valley temple connected by long, walled causeways.
