Great cooking experience with a fantastic a d friendly crew - We were met by Ron for a tour of the garden where we were shown where locally grown spices and fruit and veg were, and being the green thumb expert in the family, I managed to mis-identify pretty much every plant I was shown. Afterwards we went to the local family compound for a tour and Ron explained about the families that lived in the compound and of the family temple, and the ceremonies surrounding all the important milestones in a family - life, death, marriage, birth... Then we had coffee and tea and spoke about how the family unit operates, and honestly it was a surreal experience that I very much enjoyed. We walked back down to the kitchen area and went to work on the six dishes with Putri and Agung, showing us how to chop and mush and mix all of the fresh ingredients together for our mini feast at the end of the night. Meanwhile, Ron was setting up the table and music for a romantic evening for two by candlelight in preparing for our local delicacies. Thankfully, Putri is a great teacher and our food was delicious! We left the evening with great memories, plenty of photos and a recipe book that I will probably struggle to replicate without Putri and Agung helping me along the way! TLDR: 5/5 - would recommend 😂

Highly recommend this cooking class - We thoroughly enjoyed our cooking class with romantic candlelight dinner. We first went to spend time in a Balinese family home and learned more about the culture while enjoying a snack and coffee. Next we walked to the farm and cooking area and learned about the produce they grow. Our amazing host/chef Ron helped us to cook a delicious 6 course meal. Ron was a great host, so friendly and a great sense of humour. Highly recommend Lusang cooking class!

Book this class!! - We had the most amazing experience at Lesung Bali with Ron as our instructor, who is also the owner, and a wonderful guide to Balinese culture and food. A great bonus for us was getting picked up directly from our hotel by the lovely driver, Adi! From the moment we arrived, Ron’s passion for Balinese culture and cooking was infectious. He welcomed us with tea/coffee and a sweet treat, followed by an insightful explanation of the traditional Balinese houses and any questions we had about Balinese culture/life. The garden tour was a delightful bonus, where Ron explained the local ingredients we’d be using. Even for those who aren’t skilled in the kitchen, Ron made everything easy to follow, and we all felt comfortable and confident. His fun and approachable teaching style had us laughing the entire time, making the class both informative and enjoyable. The dishes we made were absolutely delicious, and we chose the romantic dinner option, which was decorated with beautiful flowers and candle light. It was so special and well thought out—it truly made the evening unforgettable. We can’t recommend Ron and his cooking class enough! Whether you’re a foodie or just looking for a unique cultural experience in Bali, this is a must-do!

Total immersion in Balinese culture! - For more than 4 hours we were really immersed in another culture! To begin with a driver picked us up at our accommodation and brought us to the spot, nothing to think about! Arrived on the scene, we are out of town and crowded tourist corners. We had coffee (or tea) with our evening chef, who told us about Balinese culture, told us the history of family houses and presented the different plantations (especially that we will cook next). Smiling, kind, funny and with good English, we were able to ask him all our questions and he enjoyed answering them. We cooked several hours, always in this state of mind, local products to make typical local dishes (sauce, soup, meats, vegetables, dessert...) To finish with the romantic tasting, on the table nicely prepared by our guests! Repeated (without having been able to finish everything), the driver took us back to our Pension! In short, if you want to change scenery, soak up local culture and eat well, go for it!

Balinese cusine class - We had an amazing experience with Ron de Lesung Bali during a Balinese cooking class and his romantic candlelight dinner. His warm welcome, humor and smile made the course even more enjoyable. The little extra: the visit to the beginning of a Balinese house with its garden, followed by a small snack tea/coffee and its Indonesian cupcake. An unforgettable experience that instantly plunges us into Balinese culture and that we recommend to all!
