Schedule: Depart from your hotel lobby to Palo Verde National Park. The drive to the park includes hikes along trails where various birds, iguanas, monkeys, and crocodiles can be observed, along with the rich vegetation of the dry tropical forest and wetlands. A visit to a waterfall is included, where swimming is possible if weather permits, before returning to the original pick-up location. The itinerary also includes a visit to the Bijagua Rainforest, offering opportunities to see a variety of birds such as toucans and hummingbirds, as well as sloths, snakes, frogs, and butterflies.

Palo Verde National Park is among the most ecologically diverse locations in Costa Rica. It features a vibrant array of over 15 distinct natural habitats, such as lowland deciduous forest, evergreen forest, flood forest, limestone hill deciduous forest, zacatonal forest, and mangrove forest. The wetlands, which make up 50% of the park’s area, serve as a haven for thousands of waterfowl, both resident and migratory.

Over 750 plant species have been cataloged, including palo verde, pochote, bitter cedar, and guanacaste. The park is home to 5 of the 6 mangrove species found in the country. Regarding wildlife, more than 280 bird species have been recorded, including both migratory and resident birds, some of which are endangered or have very small populations.

Visitors can enjoy the cut plains waterfall when weather conditions allow, and the Bijagua rainforest acts as a biological corridor.
