A lovely private tour - We had a lovely day with our guide Giuliana and our driver Roberto. We really wanted to see the dying city and not with a massive bus tour. Not a cheap trip but very personalised and we had as much time as we wanted at the city. Giuliana was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with. Roberto drove us very safely through an insane storm on our return and we wee delivered safely back to our hotel. Highly recommend this tour if the price doesn’t put you off.

Beautiful excursion - Our guide Roseana was very knowledgeable and friendly which made for a lovely experience. The views were spectacular, but it is quite the hike....both ways!

If you have no mobility issues this should be a must see! - Settled by the Etruscans 2500 years ago, it was largely abandoned in the 16th century following an earthquake. Our guide book made it sound as if no one lived there any more, which is not true! There are beautiful gardens, planters of blooming flowers and shrubs, plus you see people go in and out of domiciles. There are several restaurants and gift shops. Prices are very reasonable. Architecturally fascinating with beautiful vistas as well a amazing views of this hill town from your hiking starting point. Be aware not only of the incredibly steep hike and irregular pavement but an issue about parking. There are two parking lots at the starting point of your hike to Civita. There are automated machines from which you can get a ticket for your car. The tickets are €2 per hour. We had a lot of experience with these machines, but the two machines in the parking lot only gave us the week rate of €15, the weekly rate. We went to the smaller lot and the first machine we went to did the same thing. The last try was the machine outside the restrooms and finally we were able to get a 3 hour ticket for €6! I hope this is not intentional, but I am suspicious 😒
