- Government House - Situated on a 10-acre estate, Government House stands on Mount Fitzwilliam and serves as the official residence of the Governor General of The Bahamas. Dating back to 1801, this striking pink and white building on Duke Street exemplifies the blend of Bahamian, British, and American Colonial architecture. Its elegant columns and expansive circular driveway are reminiscent of styles from Virginia and the Carolinas. In front of the building stands a statue of Christopher Columbus, imported from London in 1830 by Governor James Carmichael Smythe to honor Columbus’s landing at San Salvador in 1492.
- The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory - The story of The Bahamas Rum Cake Factory began in downtown Nassau in 2000. George Bates, originally from the United Kingdom, created a recipe that inspired his “Original” Rum Cake. His recipe was so well-loved that he opened a small Rum Cake shop, which has since grown into the most popular Rum Cake brand in The Bahamas. Today, the factory remains in its original location and has cultivated a delicious culture, earning recognition in 2014 as the Official Rum Cake of The Bahamas. Packed with top-secret ingredients, baked to perfection, and gently marinated in Ole Nassau Bahamian Rum, these cakes have become more than just a dessert; they are a beloved part of life for both Bahamians and tourists.
- Queen’s Staircase - Known as the 66 steps, the Queen’s Staircase is a significant landmark located in the Fort Fincastle Historic Complex in Nassau. Carved out of solid limestone by slaves between 1793 and 1794, it provided a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City. The steps were later named in honor of Queen Victoria, who reigned in Britain for 64 years from 1837 to 1901.
- Graycliff Chocolatier - Experience a tour of Graycliff Chocolatier, a delightful destination at the Graycliff Hotel. Discover how cacao beans are transformed into delicious chocolate creations and craft your own sweet masterpiece with ingredients like mango, lime, sweet-tomato basil, and bacon.
- John Watling’s Distillery - John Watling’s Distillery, home to JOHN WATLING’S rum, the “Spirit of The Bahamas,” is located at the Buena Vista Estate in Downtown Nassau. Founded in 1789, this historic estate overlooks the harbor and is where Bahamians handcraft JOHN WATLING’S small-batch rums.
- Bay Street - At the New Duff, tasting and sampling are a must, as guava duff is synonymous with dessert for every Bahamian. Since the first Bahamian guava duff was made, there have been countless variations and methods to create this treat. The New Duff captures the texture and taste of the original duff, boiled in a pillowcase and served with a silky, sweet guava-based sauce, reminiscent of those made by the strong hands of older Bahamian women in a post-slavery era.
- Arawak Cay - Arawak Cay provides an authentic Bahamian Fish Fry atmosphere, with vendors offering made-to-order conch salad, fried fish, and other Bahamian dishes. Arawak Cay was artificially created from sand when the harbor was dredged in 1969. It features a police station, a storytelling porch for special events, an old Bahamian rock oven, an open stage, and a grassy area with seating for audiences during concerts and other productions. Sunday nights are popular with locals at Arawak Cay, or “Fish Fry” as they call it.
