Setting Sail to the Exumas

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I boarded the powerboat, leaving the bustling streets of Nassau behind. The promise of a private island adventure in the Exuma chain was too tempting to resist. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and the idea of exploring the hidden gems of the Bahamas was a siren call I couldn’t ignore.

The ride to Allens Cay was a breezy 50 minutes, with the wind in my hair and the sea spray on my face. The boat was small, intimate, and the cushioned seats made the journey comfortable. While they weren’t the original wild ones, the experience was just as delightful. Feeding them carrots and watching them paddle around was a joy, and I couldn’t help but laugh at their antics.

Dancing with Stingrays and Sharks

The day continued with an encounter that was both thrilling and humbling: feeding the stingrays. These elegant creatures glided effortlessly through the water, brushing against my hands as they fed. It was a moment of pure magic, feeling their smooth skin and watching them move with such grace.

The reef sharks, with their sharp teeth, and the nurse sharks, with their plate-like mouths, were both awe-inspiring and a reminder of the ocean’s untamed beauty.
