Stargazing and Desert Wonders: A Bahariya Oasis Adventure
Experience the raw beauty of Bahariya Oasis with perfect weather for stargazing and desert exploration. This weekend promises unforgettable adventures under the stars and amidst the unique landscapes of Egypt’s Western Desert.
Into the Heart of the Desert: A Journey Begins
As the sun rises over Cairo, casting its golden hue across the city, a journey of epic proportions awaits those daring enough to venture into the Bahariya Oasis. The weather is perfect for exploration, with temperatures starting at a crisp 62°F and rising to a comfortable 78°F by afternoon. This is the ideal climate for embarking on a desert adventure, free from the oppressive heat that often accompanies such excursions.
The White Desert Camping experience begins with a morning departure from Cairo, where travelers are whisked away in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. The journey to Bahariya Oasis is a scenic three-hour drive, offering glimpses of Egypt’s vast landscapes. Upon arrival, the adventure truly begins with visits to the English House, the Museum of the Golden Mummies, and the ancient temples of Alexander and Ain El Mefftela. As the day progresses, the anticipation builds for the evening’s main event: camping under the stars in the White Desert.
“The experience on the trip to the white desert was incredible. We arrived at the oasis of Baharya from Cairo where we ate well. Then we went to the black desert to have a look and it was amazing. We also have a stop at Crystal Mountain and another such beautiful place. And we took a bath in some hot springs! To finish we camped in the white desert and it was one of the best experiences of my life! The sunset and sunrise in the morning was amazing. They prepared a very good dinner and breakfast for us! Thanks for that! If you come to Egypt, you have to do this experience! I would recommend it to everyone who loves nature and adventure!” - Reviewed at 2022-05-28
The White Desert: A Canvas of Stars
As night falls, the White Desert transforms into a celestial wonderland. The sky, free from the light pollution of the city, reveals a tapestry of stars that seem close enough to touch. This is where the Stargazing Safari comes into its own, offering an unparalleled view of the night sky. The desert’s unique rock formations, sculpted by millennia of wind and sand, stand as silent sentinels under the starlit sky.
The camping experience is nothing short of magical. With all the comforts of home, including tents, mattresses, and blankets, guests can relax and enjoy a traditional Bedouin dinner. The evening is spent sharing stories around the campfire, with the gentle strumming of a guitar providing a soothing soundtrack to the night. As the temperature drops, the warmth of the fire and the camaraderie of fellow travelers create a sense of community in this remote corner of the world.
“Very special birthday experience camping in the desert oasis - Highly recommend this tour to the Bahariya oasis! Pictures and reviews don’t do it justice, a very special experience that many Egyptians were surprised we knew about! Mahmoud made booking this trip for my birthday very easy and made sure I had an excellent one that I’ll never forget. Our good natured guide Mohammed was a Bedouin expert who made our female group of 4 feel very safe and welcome on this desert safari. We stopped at the Stars base camp which has all the comforts of home (shower, toilets) and beautiful little touches around the camp. After a lovely vegetarian welcome lunch we visited the white crystal desert, hot spring at Fez, underwater graveyard, black volcanic ash desert and the ‘mushroom’ desert. We camped overnight at the mushroom desert and once dusk fell Mohammed expertly set up the tent, fire and a delicious and fresh, 3 course meal of vegetable soup, chicken and potatoes. He then surprised me with balloons and a cake for my birthday!” - Reviewed at 2022-05-27
Dawn in the Desert: A New Day
As dawn breaks over the White Desert, the landscape is bathed in a soft, ethereal light. The temperature is a cool 59.4°F, gradually warming to 75.8°F as the sun climbs higher in the sky. This is the perfect time to explore the desert’s unique geological formations, which have been shaped over millions of years. The calcifications of the White Desert, known as karst, are a testament to the power of nature and the passage of time.
The morning is spent exploring the Black Desert and Crystal Mountain, where the stark contrast between the dark volcanic rocks and the white limestone creates a dramatic landscape. The journey continues with a visit to the hot springs, where travelers can relax and rejuvenate before the return journey to Cairo. As the sun sets on this unforgettable weekend, the memories of stargazing and desert exploration linger, a reminder of the raw beauty and untamed spirit of the Bahariya Oasis.
“Camping under the cloudy sky with amazing views - Exciting trip to the dessert visiting different sites within the Black Desert and the White Dessert. Our driver Ahmed gave the best so that we had a great adventure in the 4x4. He tooks to different places which breathtaking views and landscapes while providing safe but adventurous driving all the way through. He set camp in the middle of the desert in no time and prepared a delicious dinner for all of us which we had under the desert sky, although unfortunately too cloudy to see the stars, followed by tea made from the fireplace.” - Reviewed at 2021-10-18
