There are 37 islands on Lake Tana and 30 of them have churches and monasteries of considerable historical and cultural interest. We visit the monastery churches of Ura Kidane Mihiret, Azwa Mariam,. Ura Kidanemihiret is the best known of the monasteries and has an important collection of religious icons from the 16th to 18th centuries A.D. Azwa Mariam is known for its paintings and we also have time to visit the small museum.
Afternoon drive to the Blue Nile Falls, which is known locally as Tissisat (smoking water) falls: 100 m (328 ft) wide, the water plunges for 45 m (148 ft), giving rise to steam clouds and rainbows. Lake Tana boasts 37 islands, 30 of which are home to churches and monasteries of significant historical and cultural value. The tour includes visits to the monastery churches of Ura Kidane Mihiret and Azwa Mariam. Ura Kidane Mihiret is renowned for its extensive collection of religious icons dating from the 16th to 18th centuries A.D. Azwa Mariam is celebrated for its exquisite paintings, and there is also an opportunity to explore a small museum.
Day 2: The adventure continues with a drive to the Blue Nile Falls, locally known as Tissisat (smoking water), where the water cascades 45 meters (148 feet), creating misty clouds and rainbows. The group descends to the base of the falls for a closer view and then ascends the opposite side, with the round trip taking approximately one hour on foot. The return journey involves crossing the Blue Nile by boat back to the starting point. Overnight stay at the hotel.
