A Whirlwind Adventure Begins

As the sun began to rise over the horizon, casting a golden hue across the bustling streets of Banjul, I found myself eagerly anticipating the day’s adventure. The See It All Safari Tour promised an exploration of Kachikally, Serekunda, Lamin, and Tanji all in one day—a thrilling prospect for any wildlife enthusiast. Our guide, Jimmy, was a charismatic and knowledgeable companion, ensuring that our journey was both educational and exhilarating.

Our first stop was the Kachikally Crocodile Pool, a sacred site steeped in history and legend. As we wandered through the museum, I was captivated by the stories of rituals and ceremonies that have been performed here for centuries. Leaving the tranquility of the crocodile pool behind, we ventured into the heart of Serekunda’s bustling market. The air was thick with the aroma of spices and the vibrant colors of textiles and crafts. It was a sensory overload in the best possible way. Jimmy led us through the maze of stalls, his familiarity with the market evident as he pointed out unique items and shared stories of the artisans who crafted them.

Into the Mangroves and Beyond

Our journey continued to Lamin Lodge, where we embarked on a boat trip through the mangroves. The tide was low, and as we were carried onto the boats by local guides, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of adventure akin to the explorers of old. Cold beers in hand, we navigated the winding waterways, the vertical roots of the mangroves teeming with life.

The highlight of this leg of the journey was undoubtedly the Elephant Tree in Daranka. Its massive trunk and sprawling branches created a natural cathedral, a sacred space that invited reflection and awe. Climbing inside the tree, I felt a profound connection to the earth and its ancient rhythms. It was a moment of serenity amidst the day’s excitement, a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural wonders for future generations.
