Highlights
  • Sabir Statue - Azerbaijani cuisine refers to the cooking styles and dishes of Azerbaijan. By participating in the tour of Azerbaijani cuisine, you will witness the richness of its cuisine, in addition to the historical monuments of Azerbaijan, located at the crossroads of east and west. For the people of Azerbaijan, food is an important part of their culture and is deeply rooted in the history, traditions and values. Azerbaijani cuisine, one of the oldest and richest cuisines in the world, combines the history of culinary culture, its philosophy, table psychology, traditions, as well as practical factors as an important part of material culture. The fact that most dishes are prepared on a special stove, barbecue, plate and earthenware gives the food a special taste and aroma. Azerbaijani cuisine includes more than 40 different plov recipes. The use of spices, vegetables and halal foods is predominant in Azerbaijani cuisine, where the vast majority of the population is Muslim. A genuine local experience - The experience was very good, was like being with an old friend who happens to know about the local cuisine. The guide (Emin) was very helpful picking the foods and the drinks in a local restaurant that is mostly oriented to azerbaijanis rather than tourists, which is a plus if you are looking for a more local experience.

Great food and great company! - We went to a local (non-touristy) restaurant to have a meal with Emin who explained the various dishes the restaurant offered. We are vegetarians and this was no problem. The food was outstanding and Emin was very patient with us during the meal while we asked him 100 questions about Azerbaijan culture and cuisine. We highly recommend this cuisine tour. It’s something fun and different that you should do!

Great Family Activity! - This is a fantastic tour led by our guide, Emin. He began the tour by asking us what kind of food we were interested in experiencing. On the spot, he was able to tailor the tour to our needs- a little of everything! We chose a mix of cheap eats street food, then feasted on cheap food where the locals eat, and eventually ended at a higher end tourist spot, which featured a dish that a specialized cook has to prepare. But this tour was more than just a food tour, Emin was knowledgeable in the history of Baku, as well, and we ended up with a walking historical tour in between eating. He even led us to a speciality wine store tucked away in old town. We learned how food is prepared, how to eat it properly and in which combinations, all while learning about the history of the architecture, city design, and history of Azerbaijan oil. On top of that, our guide was patient and accommodating to our family’s needs (two kids and a baby), and our vlogging needs (we wanted to capture this experience). If you make it to Baku, be sure to book a tour with Emin and his company. It is a free tour. You will love this experience.

Local Food in Azerbaijan is amazing! - Food in Azerbaijan is incredible! I was all by myself but it was still a good experience. The snacks on the little window by the wall were great and the main restaurant as well. Would have been great with more people to try more things though.

Missed the tour - We went to the wrong park and when we arrived at the correct park 11 minutes late (our fault) we waited at the fountain for about 20 minutes before heading to the Gloria jeans across the road to use their wifi to contact the people. We waited until after 2 before we headed into the old town to do our own thing. We eventually had to go and find wifi again yo see if the people had contacted us and they said they were at the fountain but we were told to wait at the statue. We didn’t see anyone with a sign at either the fountain or statue. Our notes said statue and their website said fountain so who knows. We tried to rebook but we are not here when they were available. Make sure you arrive to designated are early and enjoy your if it goes ahead. Very hard to communicate if we don’t have SIM cards and have to find wifi all the time.
