Highlights
  • Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum - The Azerbaijan Carpet Museum showcases various schools and techniques from across the country, highlighting different historical periods and the evolution of carpet weaving. The museum boasts over 14,000 exhibits, including rare carpets, exquisite jewelry, clothing, embroidery, delicate glass pieces, wood, and felt. The first floor features flat-weave carpets and applied arts such as bags and horse saddles. The second floor displays pile carpets from different Azerbaijani regions, showcasing unique patterns and designs. The third floor focuses on modern designers, the museum’s history, and includes a children’s room. The museum is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00-18:00, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00-20:00. It is closed on Mondays.

  • Museum of Miniature Books - Situated in the old city of Icheri Sheher, the Museum of Miniature Books holds the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of miniature books. Founded by Zarifa Salahova, who spent 30 years amassing this unique collection, the museum opened on April 2, 2002. It now houses over 5,600 books from 66 countries.

  • Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center - The Heydar Aliyev Center is a major tourist attraction and a symbol of modern Azerbaijan and Baku. Designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, a Pritzker Architecture Prize and Design of the Year award winner, the building’s wave-like form ascends from the ground towards the sky and then descends back to earth. This internationally acclaimed architectural marvel features a curved modern style and includes a museum, gallery hall, and grand auditorium.

  • National Museum of History of Azerbaijan - The museum is housed in a cultural monument, a luxurious palace built in the late 19th century by philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiev. After becoming the richest man in Russia through oil discovery, Tagiev built the palace for his second wife. When Soviet forces occupied Baku in 1920, he fled, and the palace was seized and converted into a museum. Opened in 1921, the museum now holds over 300,000 artifacts, including significant historical documents, weapons, jewelry, clothing, handmade carpets, and old books. The first floor is dedicated to ancient history, featuring items from archaeological digs and the Caspian Sea floor.

  • Museum of Modern Art - Initiated by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva and opened in 2009, the Museum of Modern Art features a ‘moving abstract structure’ with bright white walls and open spaces that create a multidimensional perspective. Located near Baku’s business hub, the museum has over 800 avant-garde pieces by Azerbaijan’s leading painters and sculptors from the last 70 years. The collection includes works by artists like Rasim Babayev, Ashraf Murad, and Fazil Najafov, inspired by the colors and climate of the Absheron.

  • Museum of Ethnography and Archeology - Located in front of the Gosha Gala Gapisi tower gates in Icherisheher (Old City), the Archeology and Ethnography Museum is open on weekdays from 11am to 5pm and offers free admission to history enthusiasts. The exhibits provide a comprehensive view of primitive camps, living areas, pastoralist and farmer settlements, gravestones, early urban culture, and the historical and material culture of ancient states.

Wonderful Experience - I visited with Emin to Miniature Book Museum. It is nice galery for the book lovers. We walked in Old Town and with our driver went to Carpet Museum. Design of the museum also looks like carpet.I can say that, Azerbaijan now depeloping very well - I saw it from museums, buildings, infrastructure, friendly people and hospitality services. I am sure that in 10 yrs later it will change a lot. Keep it up guys and specially thanks to Mr. Fuad to send the Emin to be my guide in my visit to Azerbaijan. Will come here again next year on May for meetings, definetely we'll meet you again. Goodluck, All the best!
