The ‘Old City’, or ‘Icheri Sheher’, referred to as ‘the fortress’, is an exceptional historical and architectural conservation site in the heart of Baku. It is among the oldest and most densely populated regions in the country and, more broadly, the Middle East. The most iconic historical landmarks - the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah Palace (dating from the 13th to 16th centuries) - are situated within the Old City. The area also boasts a plethora of other unique monuments like mosques, minarets, remnants of caravanserais like ‘Multani’ and ‘Bukhara’, and ancient baths. Numerous stores sell souvenirs, including traditional attire, scarves and hats, ceramics, and handmade carpets. Stroll along Nizami street (a historical shopping street brimming with souvenir stores), visit the fountain square, explore ‘Park Bulvar’ shopping center and other boutiques. The second largest Boulevard in Europe is here, offering boat tours along the Baku.
