Highlights
  • Gala Gapisi - You’ll be picked up from your accommodation in Baku. The tour begins around 9 a.m. at the Double Gates of Old City Baku (Gosha Gala Gapisi).
  • Mud Volcanoes - Learn about the mud volcanoes that dot the landscape around Baku, their formation, and the significance of their eternal flames.
  • Gobustan Rock Art - Experience the prehistoric past of Azerbaijan at the Gobustan State Reserve, which boasts an impressive collection of over 6,000 ancient petroglyphs. These carvings depict scenes of people, warriors, animals, boats, dances, hunting, camel caravans, and more, illustrating ways of life from 5,000 to 20,000 years ago.
  • Gobustan Rock Art - After visiting the Gobustan State Historical-Artistic Reserve, guests will explore a modern interactive museum complex housing over 100,000 archaeological materials. Visitors are greeted by petroglyphs resembling the Azerbaijani Yalli round dance at the entrance. The museum’s information center features touchscreen displays offering detailed information in various languages about the reserve and the museum’s thematic sections. Unique artifacts, tools from the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic eras, animated presentations, and video materials provide insights into the natural changes in Gobustan, human settlement geography, and ancient cultures.
  • Absheron Region - Enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant.
  • Bibi-Heybat Mosque - Visit the Bibi-Heybat Mosque along the Caspian Sea shoreline in Baku. This beautiful and historically significant mosque, originally built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 1990s, houses the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. As a sacred place of worship and an architectural gem, the Bibi-Heybat Mosque is a must-see for visitors to Baku.
  • Ateshgah - Fire Temple - Located 21 km east of Baku, this fire temple features natural gas that flows continuously from the ground. Built by Indian merchants in the 18th century, the site became a place of worship for Hindus from the Ganges who discovered the gas source. Historian Sara Ashurbayli notes that the Ateshgah fire temple was constructed on an ancient fire-worshipping site. Resembling a small fortress, the temple has cells inside a stone-fenced courtyard with a shrine at the center. Fire worshippers led an ascetic lifestyle here.
  • Yanardag State Historical, Cultural and Natural Reserve - Yanar Dag (burning mountain) is situated in the western part of Mahammadi village. The fires are caused by natural gas seeping from fissures created by rock erosion, tectonic activities, and mud volcano eruptions—essentially volcanic-tectonic processes.
  • Absheron Region - The tour starts at 9 a.m. The journey to Gobustan and back to Baku, including the Absheron peninsula, will take approximately 3 hours and 40 minutes in total.
