Highlights
  • Baku Old City - As soon as you meet your guide at the exit of Icharishahar metro station, we will enter Baku Old Town, called “Icharishahar”. Old Town of Baku is a beautiful maze, full of narrow streets, surprising sights, old wooden balconies, stone roads and an atmosphere that you’ll never forget. A discovery by itself, every time you visit this part of the city. Your guide will tell you stories of locals about the Old Town and how it was changed and developed throughout the history.
  • Miniature Books - Museum of Miniature Books used to be in the Guinness Books of World Records until recently, but still it has a great collection of miniature and even almost microscopic books. A small museum that will be our first stop on our way to discover more! Please keep in mind that on Mondays this museum is closed.
  • Palace of the Shirvanshahs - Next, enter the Shirvanshahs’ Palace, the central part of ancient Shiranshahs kingdom and dive into the spirit of Islamic civilization while passing through the courtyard and king’s private rooms. Get to know the history of the palace and visit the mausoleums that witnessed many troubles for the past two centuries.
  • Maiden Tower - Second place we will visit is the most remarkable and mysterious monument – the Maiden Tower, built in the south-east part of the Old Town. Once you immerse yourself into the experience of discovering such extraordinary building, you will know why it is considered as the symbol of Baku.
  • Baku Boulevard - Before we head to Baku Boulevard, we will have an hour long lunch break, so you can take some rest, but also enjoy national dishes made by the soulful Azerbaijani people. Our guide will give you few options for lunch and it’s completely up to you what to eat and drink. If you choose Food & Drinks included option when booking, your guide will take you to a national restaurant located in the downtown.
  • Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum - After we enter Baku Boulevard, we will head to the Carpet Museum. The museum is a must see if you are in Baku at least for a day.
If booked for Monday, please note that the Carpet Museum is closed, so we will substitute Carpet Museum with another venue.
  • Baku Funicular - Enjoy the ride in a funicular while getting a short glimpse of Baku city up above from the hills of Baku.
  • Flame Towers - Right by the Martyrs’ Lane, you will see the Flame Towers, famous for their unique modern architectural design.
  • Martyrs’ Lane - Martyrs’ Alley is an exhibition of Azerbaijanis’ courage against Soviet occupation. Get a glimpse of the end of totalitarian Soviet regime during our visit of Martyrs’ Alley.
  • Dagustu Park (Upland Park) - At the Uphill Park, you will get a chance to see stunning view of the city. Great spot for selfies to show off your visit to Azerbaijan! :)

Fantastic guide and interesting sights - I had a really good time on the half-day tour. I expected to be part of a small group but ended up being the only one. Gunay was a fantastic guide. She was very prompt and professional, yet still personable and fun. She did an excellent job of explaining the different sights and was willing and able to answer any questions I asked. The pacing of the activities was also good. We saw a lot but the schedule never felt rushed. I highly recommend this tour.

Baku at a glance - We had a wonderful half-day visit (almost 7 hours!) with Gunay of Baku Explorer. She was competent, funny and bright. We visited most of the main sites in downtown Baku, including the Old Town, the Palace, the Tower, took a cable ride to the Flames and generally had a perfect day. The pace was smooth and relaxe. My wife and I highly recommend this walking tour!

Great experience with a local touch - I took this tour as a part of solo travelling through many countries and I must say, this has been one of the good ones. The tour guide (Azay) has great knowledge of the historical sites and its very helpful with other off-tour requests. Also, Azay is very proficient in English and Spanish, which makes the tour even easier to follow and not miss details, if you come from America. Great tour experience with a friendly local guide that feels like a friend.
