Explore the Bentota countryside, passing through lush fields and a fishing village, offering a glimpse of both traditional and modern life. Visit a Buddhist temple and a cinnamon garden. The first activity is a boat ride on the Madhu Ganga.

The Madu Ganga wetland, with its estuary and mangrove islets, forms a coastal wetland ecosystem. It hosts around 303 plant species and 248 vertebrate species. It is one of the last pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.

The boat navigates through dense mangrove forests and surrounding islets, showcasing various mangrove species, including about 10 endemic to Sri Lanka.

Along the way, you’ll see a variety of flora and fauna, such as monitor lizards and numerous beautiful birds. The Mangrove Forest is crucial for the ecosystem, providing nourishment and support.

The island inhabitants produce peeled cinnamon and cinnamon oil, offering a chance to witness this traditional craft.

Lunuganga Garden Tour

Geoffrey Bawa, a celebrated Sri Lankan architect who passed away in 2003, was one of Asia’s finest architects. Lunuganga was his country home, featuring designer elements and stunning views. Managed by the Lunuganga Trust, the property now operates as a country hotel where you can stay for a few nights. Boat trips on the Deduwa Lake offer a serene view of the property from a different perspective. Inland tours and bird-watching opportunities are also available. Don’t miss this chance to enhance your holiday experience!

Visit Kothduwa Temple

This Buddhist temple, known as the Kothduwa Raja Maha Viharaya, is located on an island within the Madu Ganga Estuary. Madu Ganga is an archipelago of fifteen islands, including a lagoon. It is believed that a relic of Lord Buddha was once housed in the Kothduwa temple around 340 CE.
