Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve - At 3:30 PM, a three-hour jungle safari begins.

Bandipur is part of the UNESCO Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, one of India’s largest protected forests. This area hosts the world’s largest population of Asiatic elephants and the country’s second-largest tiger population.

Unlike the open grasslands of the African savannah, Indian jungles are densely wooded with tall trees, grasses, and lower-lying vegetation. Wildlife can be incredibly close—sometimes just 50 feet away—but may remain unseen unless pointed out by a trained naturalist.

To enhance the experience, safaris are conducted in smaller jeeps rather than buses, allowing for a more intimate exploration of the wilderness. In Bandipur, look out for leopards, dholes (wild dogs), elephants, tigers, gaurs (Indian bison), bears, sambar deer, various antelopes, and a wide variety of birds.
