According to legend, the temple was founded by Lord Rama, the central figure of the Hindu epic Ramayana. It is believed that during his exile, Lord Rama visited this site and installed the lingam, a sacred emblem of Lord Shiva, at the temple. The temple complex includes several shrines, each honoring a different deity, such as Lord Ganesha and Goddess Parvati.
