Tour the complex’s temples and pagodas, including the magnificent Wat Phra Kaew—the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. The Royal Grand Palace, built in 1782, served as the official residence of the Kings of Siam and Thailand. • Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew) - Traverse the lawns and courtyards to reach Wat Phra Kaew. Considered Thailand’s most sacred temple, its main building houses the 66-cm (26-inch) Emerald Buddha, an incredible centuries-old statue carved from a single piece of jade. The king changes the Buddha’s gold outfits during a special ceremony at the start of each new season to bring good fortune to the country. Next, explore the Grand Palace complex with your guide, admiring the majestic golden domes, inspiring spires, glass or porcelain mosaics, and intricately carved wall murals.
