Lovely local family and food. - Desy and her husband welcome us into their home to show us how cool beautiful local traditional celebration food including yellow rice, deep fried galangal chicken and steamed coconut cakes. It was so much food we had to take away for dinner too! We loved the Java history lesson on the way home about how religion and culture has changed since the 7th century. We would recommend this for people who want to spend time with local people, support local business and who love food and cooking.

Wonderful day of cooking and eating delicious food! - We had a wonderful cooking class with Desy and we would recommend this to anyone! Desy is welcoming and kind. She told us interesting facts about the local crops and farming and then in the kitchen she was excellent at talking us through the cooking and the ingredients we used. The food was delicious. And Desy shared recipes with us afterwards, so I can’t wait to try some authentic Indonesian cooking at home! Desy’s husband Widi took us back to our hotel afterwards and he explained the history of the celebratory meal we had made, which was fascinating as well. Lovely people and lovely food - thank you for welcoming us into your home.

Nice food & atmosphere - Our cooking class with Desi was great! We started with a tour at the local market and afterwards we were welcomed in Desi’s home. We cooked an appetizer, main course Nasi Tempong and desert. It all tasted great and was much fun!

A Dive into Javanese Culture - An amazing experience! The market tour is truly fascinating, offering an authentic glimpse into local life. The cooking class is equally engaging, you will learn a lot about Indonesian cuisine and get to enjoy the delicious dishes you prepare. The highlight, however, is Desy. She's not only incredibly skilled in the kitchen but also a wonderful person, always ready to answer any questions and to make you feel comfortable. Highly recommended!

A very nice experience! - After we were picked up by Desy, we visited the local Point of Sale. There we saw all kinds of local products and learned about how tofu and tempeh are made. After this instructive first stop we continued to Desy’s lovely, cozy home. There we heard more about the delicious dishes we were going to cook and rolled up our sleeves. In between we chatted and were able to ask questions about the food, preparation techniques, culture and more. Finally, we ate the homemade meal together and were dropped off at the hotel after a glass of water and some chat. All-in-all well arranged and highly recommended!

I highly recommend the cooking class with Desy - We did the amazing cooking class at Desy’s house. It is not only very interesting to learn how to prepare the greatest food, but als a nice way to learn about Indonesian culture. Desy is very friendly, is very interested and loves to explain everything. Our son is vegetarian, but this was not a problem. We are going to try and make the food when we’re back home. It was one of the highlights of our holiday!

True Home Cooking and Delicious Dishes - Chef and hostess Desy took us to a local market to collect the ingredients we would need for our cooking class. It was really interesting to see the variety of different spices and vegetables in particular on offer at the market. Along the way we also collected a few local sweets and some fresh coconuts both of which were served to us as a "morning tea" on arrival before the cooking got underway. Taking place in Desy's own home, the kitchen had been set out with our own personalised welcome sign and aprons and chef hats were provided. Over the course of the next couple of hours we made six different dishes - quail egg and prawn fritters, double fried tempe in a sweet/spicy sauce, fried chicken, yellow rice, sambal (fresh and cooked) and pandan cakes. All of the recipes are provided at the end of the class too so you can have a go at making them at home. Desy did a great job taking us through the steps for each dish and helping us along. The presentation of the food at the end is stunning and I promise it tastes even better than it looks so make sure you come hungry! On our return to the hotel, Desy's husband also gave us the history behind the dishes and how they were representative of an old ceremony. Would highly recommend spending a morning in the kitchen with Desy!
