E-bike rentals done right - Like their kayak trips, their e-bike rentals come with a personal touch. This was my first time trying an e-bike. Brad did a great job showing us how to use our bikes as well as good guidance as to how far and where we should ride. The RAD Power fat tire bikes were comfortable and had plenty of power to get us around the Carriage Roads for close to 3hrs. Looking forward to getting out with my wife to try them…maybe during the winter. 😁

So glad we did this!!! - We rented e-bikes on our trip to Acadia, and it was probably one of the best experiences of my life! Some of the views we were able to see were so breathtaking, and we wouldn’t have been able to see them any other way than via the Carriage Roads on bikes. We decided to go with Maine State Kayaks over other companies because their fat tire bikes had a higher weight limit (270) than other e-bikes in the area (250…my husband is just barely over that). The big tires on these bikes made me feel safe cruising over various terrain. A few questions I hope I can answer for others: They only do half day rentals, whereas other companies offer full day. Half day was plenty. I would have loved to do it all day but honestly I don’t think my butt could have taken any more! I can’t imagine sitting on a bike seat all day. Also, with a full day rental I would have been concerned about the battery running out. With the half day, I didn’t feel like I had to conserve the battery, so I took those hills using the max pedal assist! The ride from the shop to the Carriage Roads isn’t too far…maybe 10 minutes? Only the first few blocks were on streets, then you have a nice bike lane for the rest of the way. This was my first time on an e-bike, and the instructions we received from Maine State Kayak were easy to understand. We got the hang of them quickly. As long as you know how to ride a bike, you’ll be fine. It was like a cross between riding a bike and being on a motorbike. I think most people, whatever their activity level, would be able to use these without feeling overwhelmed or over-exerted. Such a great experience!

Beauty and kindness - The staff did a great job orientating a large group. Once we left the store we were having a bit of a confidence issue. Carrie stopped her return to the store when she saw us and kindly assisted. She offered several times to ride with us to the start of the park and get us past the traffic. We finally took her up on the offer. By the time we got to the park area we were good and ended up having an amazing time. Without the kindness, encouragement and patience of Carrie, we may have turned back. So very glad we didn't. It was amazing!

More than met our expectations - These bikes were sturdy, easy to use, easy to ride for over 6 footers, and the battery lasted for our 26 mile ride with at least 50% more to go. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly, able to use their backpack and maps. Great experience

Easy, safe and amazing ride through the woods. You must not miss this! It was the highlight of our fabulous week in Maine!

Great Job Fat Tire! - Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff, good quality e-bikes that were easy to master, and one of the best bike paths in the country. Very scenic! Our self-directed 4-hour trip was just right for our 5 -person group (ages 25 to 65) and the map and directions given to us were easy to follow. There's a short part through downtown roads (less than 1/4 mile) but it looked and felt safe. We would highly recommend Fat-Tire E-Bike Rental to our friends.

Go ahead and rent them, it’s worth it! - We had the best time, it was our favorite day of the cruise! The bikes made it so easy for us to see the park and town in a short stop. The crew at Fat-tire was excellent!!

Good bikes. Had to ride to park from shop - actual ride time shortened by orientation - The fat tire bikes were great for riding in the carriage roads. Plenty of power and battery. It is a little challenging to ride from the store to the park. The staff was friendly. Although the orientation was thorough and helpful, that time counts toward your 4 rental hours - ends up closer to 3.5 hours.

Amazing Experience - I was a little scared at first, because I’m not the best bike rider. But it was so easy and we had a wonderful time. The carriage roads made you not worry about cars. Four stars because my helmet was too loose and impossible to adjust and maybe invest in some more comfortable seats. Other than that, nice instructions and maps.
