• Animal Flower Cave - Located at the northernmost point of Barbados in St. Lucy, the Animal Flower Cave gets its name from the sea anemones found in its pools, some of which are deep enough for swimming. The cave features several openings with spectacular sea views and walls colored green and brown by copper and iron oxidation. Look for formations resembling a lizard, turtle, and hand as you explore. Visit the clifftop bar and restaurant for the best lemonade in Barbados, along with other drinks and local dishes, including a variety of cutters. The area also features a large children’s playpark and stalls selling local jewelry, art, and crafts. The surrounding cliffs offer stunning views of the northern coast, where Atlantic waves crash dramatically.
• Barbados Wildlife Reserve - This is the animal kingdom of Barbados, where you can walk freely among animals feeding and playing in their natural habitat. Spot agouti, armadillo, Brocket deer, pelicans, and caimans. Monkeys are most active during afternoon feeding time. Reptiles include snakes, iguanas, turtles, and tortoises. Parrots, flamingos, and peacocks add bright splashes of color. Only the more dangerous animals, like pythons, are kept enclosed. Top Tip: Arrive by 2pm to see the monkeys, especially the babies, being fed!
• St. Nicholas Abbey - Built in 1658, this Jacobean Great House is one of only three remaining in the Western Hemisphere. The property has been tastefully restored as a sustainable heritage attraction and working plantation, producing its own unique single cask rums, which have received international acclaim. The tour includes the Great House, gardens, a small museum, factory, distillery, a must-see short film from circa 1930, and rum tasting. For enthusiasts, the private Rum Experience Tour is available on select days with owner Larry Warren. The plantation also features an authentic Victorian steam railway.

• Sunbury Plantation House - Built around 1660 by Matthew Chapman, an Irish/English planter and one of the island’s first settlers, Sunbury Plantation House is over 300 years old and rich in history. It features mahogany antiques, old prints, antique porcelain dolls, and a unique collection of horse-drawn carriages. The house has undergone several name changes, from Chapman’s Plantation to Branker’s Plantation, then Brothers Plantation, and finally Sunbury Plantation, named after the Barrow brothers’ home in Britain. It is the only great house in Barbados with all rooms available for viewing.

• George Washington House - George Washington House in Barbados is a historic site where the future first U.S. President George Washington is believed to have stayed in 1751. At 19 years old, he traveled with his half-brother Lawrence Washington, who was suffering from tuberculosis. George Washington contracted smallpox during his stay and was nursed back to health at the house. Barbados is the only country outside the present United States that George Washington ever visited.
• Welchman Hall Gully - Located in St. Thomas, Welchman Hall Gully is a three-quarter-mile-long gully home to various tropical plants and trees, including nutmeg, bamboo, clove, and palms. The gully, formed by collapsed cave roofs, is geologically connected to the adjacent Harrison’s Cave. Explore the self-guided walk along a shaded path, with options to step off the pathway to see bamboo groves, cave formations, and playful monkeys. The gully offers a glimpse into how the first British settlers saw the island.
• Bathsheba Beach - Legend has it that Bathsheba, wife of King David, bathed in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft. The beach features wide white sand beaches along a dramatic coastline with striking rock formations and crashing Atlantic waves. • Gun Hill Signal Station - Located in St. George, Gun Hill Signal Station is the largest and most important military outpost in Barbados, with military associations dating back to at least 1697. • Hunte’s Gardens - Known as one of the top garden spots on the island, Hunte’s Gardens features over 84 species and varieties of birds, flowers, and plants, such as the purple lily, heliconia, and orchids. While much of the flora can be found throughout Barbados, there are also species rarely seen in the West Indies.
• St. James Parish Church - St. James Parish Church is one of the four oldest surviving churches in Barbados, located near the site of the island’s first settlement in Holetown. Established in 1628, the original wooden church was replaced by a coral-stone building 60 years later, much of which remains today. Notable features include mural tablets, stained glass windows, and a bell inscribed with “God bless King William, 1696,” which predates the American Liberty Bell by 56 years. The burial ground contains some of the island’s oldest graves.
• St. John’s Parish Church - One of Barbados’ oldest church sites, this classic Gothic-style church offers panoramic views of the eastern beaches from its cemetery. The interior features impressive woodwork, including an elaborate pulpit and sweeping staircases. The cemetery contains grand headstones and crypts of notable Bajans.
• Shark Hole - Shark Hole is a hidden gem in Barbados, a secluded beach with picturesque rock formations, a protective coral reef, and beautiful blue water. The tiny beach is nestled between cliffs and sheltered by coral and rocks, making it a unique and safe swimming spot despite the rough waters in the area.
• Bottom Bay - Bottom Bay is a remote cove with a picturesque beach, bordered by jagged cliffs. • Speightstown - Also known as Little Bristol, Speightstown is the second-largest city center in Barbados, located 12 miles north of Bridgetown in St. Peter. Named after William Speight, a member of Barbados’ first Assembly, the city offers a mural to explore.
• Carlisle Bay - Carlisle Bay is a small natural harbor in southwest Barbados, home to the capital city of Bridgetown. The bay has been turned into a marine park, popular for scuba diving, with relics like anchors and cannonballs on the ocean floor.
• Cherry Tree Hill - At approximately 850 feet above sea level, Cherry Tree Hill offers excellent views of the Scotland District in St. Andrew. The area was once lined with cherry trees, now replaced by mahogany trees introduced after the Treaty of Paris in 1763. As you descend the hill, the mahogany trees give way to sugar cane fields.
• Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill - One of the largest and only complete sugar windmills surviving in the Caribbean, Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill features intact wind-driven machinery from the 18th and 19th centuries. The mill includes an exhibit of the equipment used to produce sugar when the industry relied on wind power. The rubble walls are made of boulders held together with a mixture of egg-white and coral dust, as cement was not available when the plantation house was built.

• Nidhe Israel Synagogue and Museum - Nidhe Israel Synagogue, developed by Sephardic Jewish settlers from Recife, Brazil around 1628, is one of the oldest synagogues in the Western Hemisphere. The building was rebuilt in 1833 after being damaged in the 1831 hurricane. The synagogue features separate worship areas for men and women and has a museum detailing its history.
