Additional Information

Experience one of the most valuable and top-rated activities from Airbnb, now available on Viator. When people visit Barcelona, they crave authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Nothing captures the essence of Spanish Mediterranean food better than tapas. Often elevated to iconic status, tapas have a rich tradition of bringing families and friends together. Unfortunately, tourists are often lured into traps where the so-called tapas served bear little resemblance to the real thing.
Our renowned local chef and his team earned their popularity among locals while running the kitchen at the ideally situated Kaiku restaurant in La Barceloneta, the historic fishermen’s neighborhood by the sea. Here, they introduced their innovative creation, the Vulcano, which imparts an irresistible smoky aroma to their dishes. This custom-made aluminum “hat” covers the products for a few minutes while torched rosemary twigs infuse them with a unique and captivating flavor.

Just do it - Short: Do it ! Hervorragend ! Muy Bien ! Superb ! you'd be a fool if you'd not do this cooking class while staying in Barcelona. Longer version: My girlfriend and I weren't sure about a cooking class during a vacation. In fact I like cooking but she only does it if needed and we thought we're here to relax and not "work" . Oh boy were we wrong about how much fun this is. So we arrived at the address and we were a little irritated about the outside neighborhood. It looked a little like we'd lose a kidney instead of enjoying nice food. The elevator is an adventure on its own yet the neighborhood fools you. You enter a nice and cozy studio and you will be welcomed by warm-hearted people. A picture of a banksy drawing on the wall catched my attention right away and with additional art gave the place a cool vibe. We had a little chat with one of the hosts as he wanted to figure out what we were about to cook. In our case as we are not fans of fish and seafood we made Gazpacho, tapas and sangria. Beforehand we were a little afraid that we end up with seafood again as the Catalans seem to like it a lot, which is kind of normal in a sea region. So we started cooking. The hosts prepared everything which takes hours to cool down before we arrived and showed us how to make it. Often we started making a dish so that we get the idea how it's made and another chef finished the rest or made more pieces of the same dish. This made it very convenient. In between we enjoyed the different dishes and variants of them and had a nice chat with the hosts. It's all topped of with a lovely yet light dessert. We've been in Barcelona for 7 days now and tried many restaurants, even a 2 Michelin star one. Especially the Spanish ones ( , except the 2 star place ) could not convince us which left us unsatisfied. Many places are expensive and the food is mediocre at best as they focus on tourists rather than making good authentic food. So the best thing about this cooking class is that you do not only enjoy delicious authentic Spanish and Catalan cuisine but you also get an authentic atmosphere in an authentic neighborhood which leaves you with a feeling of eating out at a friend's place.
