Well worth a visit - Hidden Gem!! Saw someone mention that this was worth a visit so decided to pre book and it certainly was a disappointment!! The views were breathtaking and really gave you a sense of what Barcelona has to offer. Definitely recommend it.

Alright - The famous monument dedicated to Christopher Collomb. It is located at the roundabout between the Rambla district and the old port of Barcelona. It was built in 1888 for the Universal Exhibition. Inside there is a small 60 meter elevator. A cheap entry ticket for stunning views of the harbor and city. You must book your ticket well in advance.

Beautiful monument - This monument is lovely to watch especially at sundown with all its intricate details. We did not do the wine tasting.

So glad we did this - We started our day early in the morning with sightseeing and walking La Rambla all day with a planned food tour that evening. We scheduled this as a rest stop before our food tour and it was the perfect way to take a breather. I'm so glad I followed John B's advice and upgraded to the glass of wine. After taking in the views from the top of the monument, we sat and enjoyed a glass of wine in the bar below, meeting a lovely couple from our state and enjoying ourselves immensely. Note that the entry to the monument is actually under the monument itself, down some stairs and through the sliding glass doors. From the top of the stairs it looks like its closed, but it isn't. Head on down there for some views and wine!

Great viewpoint - A very small elevator (with an operator) - If you're claustraphobic it might not be for you - takes you up to a 360 degree viewing platform. It's so small you must follow other visitors around, no room to pass! But the view was lovely, from the seaside to the Sagrada Familia in the distance. Tapas weren't much, but the wine sampling (one choice per person) was very good. Fun and inexpensive activity.

Be sure to Upgrade to the Glass of Wine for €2 extra - The monument was quite popular during the festival of festivals called Merce. The elevator takes one 172 feet up in a matter of seconds, and offers 360 degree views. The wine offer for a mere €2 extra is amazing. Total price with wine €8 (seniors €6) . I have paid €10 for just one glass of wine half as good! The staff are very friendly and helpful

beautiful view of the city - We bought ticket ahead of time so didn't have to wait in line. The lift to go to top is small so only a few people can go up at once. Michael was our lift operator. He was very nice and very knowable

See the City - We went in this tout on our first night in Barcelona. If you are taking a cruise ship, it is very close, within walking distance across the bridge, from the cruise port terminal. It was interesting to see the whole city from above. Inside there are panoramic photos with descriptions of what you are seeing in English. We paid just $6 for this ticket and didn’t do the wine tasting because we do not drink. After the elevator ride up, you can stay up inside the tour for as long as you like before coming down,

Tribute to the Great Explorer Christopher Columbus - We actually did not go on an organized tour to see this nice monument. Rather, we were on a self-guided tour that took us down (North to South) La Rambla where in we ended at the port and thus the monument of Columbus. The Columbus Monument is a 197 foot monument to Christopher Columbus. It was constructed for the Exposición Universal de Barcelona (1888) in honor of Columbus' first voyage to the Americas. The monument serves as a reminder that Columbus reported to Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand V in Barcelona after his first trip to the new continent. At the very top of the monument is a 24 ft bronze statue on a 131 foot Corinthian column. The statue was sculpted by Rafael Atché. Legend is that it depicts Columbus pointing towards the New World with his right hand, while holding a scroll in the left. However, more likely the statue is situated in the current way simply to have Columbus point out to sea underscoring his achievements in naval exploration. The monument and plaza surrounding it are detailed and ornate. Definitely worth seeing when in Barcelona.
